Looking at charters over to BVI for 9 people
Looking at taking our group of 9 (7 adults, 3 & 5 year olds) over to the BVI this trip. Would love to use Captain John at Palm Tree but out group is to large for his boat. Anyone have another charter company they would like to suggest? And how much money are we looking at for this "dream day"?
There are not too many available as most (as you know) are a 6 pac. Your options are a multi passenger boat holding 30+ - catamaran or power and they will have a set itinerary or there are a few private power that can hold up to 12 for trips to the BVI. Some of these boats also will do a mixed charter so there will be, again. a set itinerary with other people possibly so if you are looking to set your own itinerary and timeframe then a private will be the way to go and they will be in the $1350-$1500 range for all of you and will include an open bar and fuel. Customs is not included so figure $30 pp for that.

We used http://www.borntorhumb.com/ last year for our group of 7 We loved it and are using them again this year. The cost was within what Pia quoted.

Treazzure is a beautiful large sailboat that can hold up to ten people very comfortably. We sailed with them 3 years ago and are sailing with them again on May 27th. The food and hospitality was wonderful. There will be eight of us, I believe we are paying $140 or $150 per person plus customs fees. With 8-10 people in a party it is considered a private sail and you get to choose your itinerary. We are planning some morning sailing, a stop in a sheltered cove for a wedding vow renewal ceremony, then off to Jost for Lobsters and finishing the day at the Soggy Dollar Bar. Back in Cruz Bay by 5pm or so. Here is a short description from their web site:

I don't really know why you would need a dinghy?? Soggy Dollar (if you go there) you swim/wade in and most other popular sports you can either use a dock (Foxy's etc) or you will be on a mooring ball to snorkel (The Indians for example) I don't know any power boat for 12 that has a dinghy.

We needed to dinghy into the Soggy Dollar.
Our idea was that we (Mr. PA and I) would swim in with our son in his life vest. Two things prevented that.
The first was it was so packed that day, we had to anchor far from shore. The second was the water was terribly rough, there is no way I felt comfortable with towing a sort-of-swimmer. My husband and the rest of the adult men swam in and they had their butts kicked by the water.
Any potential issues could be avoided by docking at Foxy's and cabbing it over. Although when we sailed over, we still needed to dinghy to Foxy's so who knows?
