I answered on TA as well... but in addition, I would get bottled water if you are staying at Samuel Cottages. Cistern water is ok at some places, not as good at others, and everyone is different. Samuel Cottages is very close to the road and I used to live two houses down. It would get very dirty and dusty because of the traffic. So unless they have a good filter, you might not like the taste of the water.

It is not that far of a walk to Samuel Cottages. From ferry to cottages it takes a little longer, a slight incline walk on the way there, usually takes about 10 minutes. It's a straight shot from the ferry dock...get off the ferry and walk straight ahead. From the cottages to the ferry it takes less, about half that. You will have to go through the roundabout....so when you cross it, please use the cross walks on the streets and don't walk straight through the circle or across the circle part of the road.

Thank you so much for your reply! I am just full of questions as the date gets closer as this is my first week long stay there. Spent a few day trips there during a visit with my nephew in St Thomas, and fell in love. Nice to be able to get info from peers with experience. :D

We have stayed at Samuel Cottages the last four years. It is not a bad walk to town but part of it has no sidewalk. We take a flashlight, if we walk at night. We drink bottled water, but do use the water for coffee so guess it is okay. "Our" cottage, #3, does have a filter on the faucet, so they probably all do. I am so envious - we love STJ. We were there in October & are so ready to go back but looks like it is going to be next year before we get there. Have a great trip!
