Ilios, Dolphin Run and Rara Avis-Comments?

Post by PatrickMcc »

If anyone has rented these villas I would appreciate any input. It is three couples and a one and one half year old. Couples are my wife and I, two daughters, son-in-law and boyfriend. We choose these as the final three choices because they had three bedrooms, baths/ pool/ and you could walk to Hart Bay. We think the drive to Cruz Bay isn't extremely long or scary. The younger couples might want to go out at night. Since my grandson will be with us we thought the ability to walk to Hart Bay would be nice since we will probably be spending part of every day at the villa. We are looking at President's Week. Thanks.

We loved Ilios but I am not sure it would work for 3 couples because the bedrooms are not really equal. There is a master bedroom pod. Anther bed room up outside stairs above the living area and the 3rd is tucked back into the courtyard with no view at all.
Also, the walk to Hart Bay was not all that easy to navigate, at least by the path we took, I would not want to do that with a little one.

It is a great house but we decided against it when we needed a place for 3 couples

I forgot to mention that Dolpin Run was called LeLapin until 2002. Now there is another villa called Le Lapin.
Thank you Xislandgirl. We could handle the unequal bedrooms- we old folks usually take the lesser one but the walk to Hart Bay probably eliminates Ilios.

I stayed at Dolphin Run in June '09. We chose it because of its location and price. There is a lot to love about this villa: great views, sound of the waves, good breezes and a nice pool. However, when we stayed the villa was showing its age. The furniture and appliances are little "tired" and the roof above one of the bedrooms leaked a little during a couple of hard rains. We also had issue with a couple of the sliding doors. Also, be aware, there is no AC. You should be fine in February. I would check with Caribbean Villas to see if any updates have been made to the property. All things considered, we very much enjoyed our stay. It just depends on your expectations.

Yes, there was a path down to Hart Bay. We did hike down there once and did some beachcombing. It is certainly not a swimming beach....no good entry point and the surf was too rough. They say the snorkeling is fantastic if you catch a really calm day.
