Casinos on St. John`

Post by pmk »

Wow, I hope this isn't true....

St. John, USVI (AP): Today the National Park Service (NPS) has proposed de-commissioning the Virgin Island National Park in 2016, according to NPS officials. According to transcripts of meetings held with the Park Service and House Ways and Means, the costs of maintaining the park far outweigh the benefits that could be gain by leasing portions of the park to private interests involved in adult tourism in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Yearly leases could result in increase capitalization of the island and benefit both local and offshore interests. While the head of the Park Service could not be reached, the local NPS attaché commented, “St. John is simply too small to accommodate the current tourism modaliy. We believe we can quadruple revenue by engaging in strategic leases with our private partners.“ One plan is to develop three casino locations, on the west, east and northern portions of the island. Discussions will be formalized and moved to committee as early as July 2011.

Well played. You had me hook line and sinker. Especially since I read it on the second.
