August or October

Post by Creative Name »

Obviously we are heavily considering August because it is sooner. However, I've heard the water is great in October and we would be escaping the cooler weather of Michigan in Ocotber. We can't decide, any strong opinions out there?

I love it on STJ in September/October the water is so warm and they weather has been great the three times we have been during that time. But it is hurricane season so that is always in the back of my mind so I usually do a last minute vacation for that reason. Also alot of the restaurants close down for a bit during those months so your favorite restaurant may not be open. It is gorgeous here in Massachusetts during August so I dont think I would ever take a vacation to the caribbean during the summer months.

we love October and will be here for two weeks then! We haven't been in August but were here in July last year- it was great as well, but for some reason I prefer October. :)

I would say Oct too. Both are hurricane season but I bet August is more likely for a hurricane. I was there last July and it rained constantly but I guess that was unusual.
My favorite time has been June. Oct/Nov is good too though. :D

We've been in October 6 times with perfect weather, warm water & empty beaches until last year. Hurricane Omar loomed over us for days but we still had fun . . . soggy mud-sliding fun!
We've been in August for our anniversary with great weather and will be back this August to celebrate! :D

Whatever you choose, rain or shine, I'm sure you will have a great time~ and if you do decide to go sometime during the first few weeks in August, we are looking for a few couples to split a day charter boat trip to the BVI's on Palm Tree Charter. PM me if you are interested!
I've got 2 tickets to paradise~Pack your bags we'll leave tonight!

We've done both and they were both great. We loved how empty October was, BUT we did get stuck in the Hurricane and it rained the first three days before the storm came through. We still had a great trip!

I do like to have all my restaurant choices open, but if that doesn't matter to you, choose October.

We are going in July this year and hoping for good weather!

Our only two months of the year with pretty good weather are July and August, so we wouldn't consider travelling then!
We went in late October, last time, and it was wonderful to have one last respite before the long...long....long....winter!

We have done at least 3 trips in mid to late Oct/ early Nov and it is beautiful, warm water, less crowded. We may miss out on a restaurant or 2 but most are open. I can remember The Lime Inn was closed once...but there are many others to choose from. The one time we actually had to "dodge " a hurricane was 2004 end of AUGUST.. and we went from St John to V. Gorda where IVAN skirted around us. I love the "off " season. Looking forward to a Nov. trip this year.

Never been in Oct, but I would love to try it. Given a choice that sounds good. Esp. if you have good weather in August at home.

Have spent the last 4 Halloweens in STJ and the weather was absolutely perfect. I will say it was very warm but someone who grew up with New England winters I love the heat. Also less crowded that time of year.
