STJ Shopping - Good Birthday Present?
STJ Shopping - Good Birthday Present?
Ok folks, I need some ideas! A friend will be celebrating his birthday while we're there (one of the big milestone ones!). Any suggestions on what to get him? He'll be there with us, so that helps I suppose. Normally a day at the Tap Room would be perfect, but this particular guy isn't a beer drinker. Gasp, I know!
Any good ideas out there?

I'm kind of thinking I want to get him something that he'd only find on St John, to remind him where he spent his big 4-0. His home is very nicely decorated, so I might be leaning in that direction. He does cook, but isn't passionate about it.
I thought about a hook bracelet but quite honestly can't decide if he'd wear it.
He's fun-loving, LOVES to go on cruises, great sense of humour... probably none of this helps
Definitely would NOT wear a St John t-shirt. See why I'm stuck? Hahahha.

There are a gazillion art galleries on STJ and STT. If he has a good sense of humor, get him a nice piece of art with a donkey or goats in the painting.
My mother-in-law got us a nice print of Coral Bay from Coconut Coast Studios with a few small donkeys in the corner and it always makes me smile.
Here's the website:

This is only one of many painters, glass artists, photogrphers, sculptors etc.
There's good cheap art store at Skinny Legs too. I bought a couple of multi-media matted pieces there and there were a lot of great mosaics and glass pieces there too. I think the gallery is Szygy (sp?).

I got a smallish (6 x 15 probably) print of Haulover Bay from a small art shop in STT. Sorry can't remember the name. I got it nicely framed and hung it over my wine rack. How appropriate. Anyway, it reminds me of my intro dive at Haulover and what a great experience that was so I love it and the memories it conjurs.
Maybe a small print of a meaningful place that you hit during your trip. You can always surprise him w/ it at the end & its easy to pack if unframed.

I was going to say Art as well - but that can be hard.
This is over your budget but could be done if you don't buy dinner, if he likes Scotch.
My husband likes to treat himself to Johnny Walker Blue when we can get it on an island. On STJ last year we found it for $125 at Mixology. Not the best price we ever got but better than at home.
Or maybe just go the dinner route completely and order a bottle of nice Champagne or Wine.
