Rum
Based on what I have read, it seems Pine Peace is the place to get rum for the best price? Do they also sell wine? I also read you can get it from a shop in the airport once you land?
And I had thought that Pine Peace was teh new grocery store on the way to the Westin but I think I mis-understood. What is the name of the place? And how does it compare to Starfish in terms of variety and price?
Thanks!

yes, Pine Peace sells wine but it is not the new market near Westin. That is called St. John Market or something like that - you won't miss it.
We normally only shop PP for booze but others do additional shopping there. And I don't do much comparison shopping on vacation so can't help you there
Gromit has done a whole post on Pine Peace if I recall. You might be able to find it in search.

Thanks. We bought a coupe bottles there on our trip.
What is considered to be a "good" price so we can stock up in case we see it?

Kristen, We felt that Starfish had a little better variety/selection than the new place. My husband went there to pick up cheese/crackers, wine and other snacks our first night in and was a little disappointed. We usually get our wine at the place across from Starfish and make it a one-stop for food and booze. We don't eat in much, so we're typically just buying snacks and breakfast food.

well, I'm with you on your priorities.....but I guess you need to define "good" for the rum. I won't buy the good stuff (single barrel cruzan) in STJ because our 20 somethings drink too much rum when we're there, they'd break the bank! We live off the dark 2 year aged rum while there, I recall 5.99/bottle in Cruz Bay,....but I'm quite sure we got some for 4.99/bottle in Coral Bay last year. Its totally fine for most mixed island type drinks.
by the way, the single barrel goes for $26 on sale in NH, but its around $35 in STJ. The 2 year stuff is priced about the same in both locations. If you want to treat yourself to the good stuff, (hubby might like it better than gin).....don't use for things like fruit drinks or painkillers, they hide the flavor. You just want to have it with a squeezed lime, a shot of simple syrup, ice and some sparkling water. Awesome stuff!

good deal!
by the way, our oldest son's roomate from college bought a bar after he graduated. He comes every year with our family along with his significant other. The deal is he stays in the villa for free, and he's the bartender for the week. Its win/win for us both!
We also go through a ton of rum in a week there, it really hits the spot!
