Vehicle rental and insurance
Vehicle rental and insurance
I'm looking into renting a Jeep from Discount Car Rental on STT. We have a 16-month-old and we wanted to have the car seat ready for us at the airport instead of dealing with taxis to the ferry. We also liked that Discount helps out if there are issues on STJ.
The problem is our car insurance doesn't cover us in the USVI. And the insurance through Discount is $25/day... an additional $175 on the rental for the week... yikes. We have rented through Courtesy on STJ in the past and it was $10/day.
Does anyone know of a rental company on STT that handles problems on STJ and has a little more affordable insurance? Or any other suggestions?
We might just bite the bullet on the $175, but thought I'd check here first.

If you have an Amex card, it's $24.95 for the rental period. I signed up for just before we left for our trip back in february.
If you don't have an Amex, just get one. Then sign up for the insurance. Pay for the rental when you get there with the Amex card and you are covered!

There is a recent thread on another StJ forum that I found interesting and very informative. I hate to post a link to a different website here but there was some great insight to this question.
