Rental only by the week?

Post by Xislandgirl »

Has anyone encountered this? We found a house on VRBO and inquired for the price and was told that they only rent Sat-Sat and if we wanted to stay another day, we would have to pay for the whole next week????
I have never heard of this and wondered if this is something that owners are doing?

I havent heard of that.. thats crazy on their part..too many other villas for rent to have to pay for a week when you are only there for 1 extra day...I for one, would look for something else...and I bet Im not the only one.

Sounds like the owner is trying to discourage breaking up a week. Im sure they feel that the 6 remaining days would be difficult to rent.

I spent the last two week searching a large amt. of villas and that's the first time I've heard that. I'd say move on...there's lot of villas that don't rent that way. Seems it will limit the owners on getting the place rented as these days not as many people have a strict sat-sat trip planned.

Never. We always go mid-week to mid-week.

We have stayed 7 years in a row for 10 days and a different villa each time. The extra days were prorated AND we have even received a discount at some of them!!!

I have never seen a villa on STJ rent Sat to Sat only. I have encountered that policy here in the states when renting vacation houses.

I am glad it isn't just me. I was confused and disapointed by it. Maybe that is why the calendar is wide open for the month we are traveling.

Well, then obviously they aren't concerned with rental income or they'd try to accomodate you. That's just ridiculous...

We ran into the sat - sat back in 2006 with Caribbean villas. This year we went with the same company Thu-Thu. Find another place.

What a silly business model. People fly into the USVIs every day of the week, they are just shooting themselves in the foot.

I recently booked a villa through a management company and during my conversation with them I was informed certain owners would only book reservations for weekly increments, they would not split up a week, I was only booking a week so I really didn't question it at the time...

I've run into it and think it's nuts, too. I was told by a villa management company owner who rents whenever to whenever that they actually like those short breaks between bookings because then they can get their maintenance people in to do the things that need doing and can't be done during a tight turnaround. Kind of made me think "hmmmm" about the condition of the villas where the owners want all of those back to back bookings.

We usually book 10 days with no problem.
