Beginning in Dec. until now is high season. Beautiful weather, not too hot but very warm, dry which means little to no mosquitoes and few rainy days.

Summer time from June till August has more of a chance of rain, even hurricanes, though they commonly don't become an issue until mid-August till Oct. It can get quite hot too. It is also far more quiet.

Best weather and least amount of people often don't go together. So as long as you don't mind the hottest time, more biting insects, perhaps rainier days, and chance of hurricanes then summer will be your best bet for smaller crowds.

We like the beginning of summer. (May and June) Alittle of high season weather with fewer crowds and it is nice and warm. And the prices are much better! Of course we have been there in July and August and love it! Weather was not bad, mosquitos are worse, but paradise non-the-less!

We like early spring (early to middle March) when possible. We get so tired of snow and ice.

We have gone in May, July, August and October. In May we've had tons of insects and then virtually no insects, some rainy days and then one trip with no rain. In October we got hit with a hurricane, but it was still a great trip.

In July and August, we only had one rainy day and we haven't had any trouble with bugs. We actually love those months because the crowds are low although not as low as October. We are from the Midwest so when we go in the summer, the weather feels cooler than at home.

Good luck making a choice!

Weather is a crapshoot. Sure, ON AVERAGE, there are times of the year when you're less likely to get rain, etc. but try telling the SOTB girls that were on island last summer that July is a "dry" month!

Since you really don't know what the weather will be like, you may want to move on to your other listed factor - the relative number of people that will be on island.

Your best bet will be from the beginning of October to early December. The crowds (and to some extent the prices as well), and the risk of hurricanes affecting your trip will be inversely proportional during that time frame, so figure out your risk/reward tolerance and go for it!

We really like late October/early November and have visited the island during that period the last three years, but due to conflicts with an obligation at home this year we'll be there (weather permitting) from early to middle October.
Come see us!

My absolute favorite is the 4th of July for Carnival on St John. It can be a little hot, but who cares? You're at the beach! September is by far the worst hurricane month. It is also the month when a lot of the restaurants are closed.
