St John by bus

Post by cruzanluvr »

We are staying in Cruz Bay and were wondering what it would be like to not rent a car this time and only use the bus. We have never used the bus before and would love to know which beaches, hikes and restaurants we could hit by bus only? Also, is it fairly reliable? Thanks!!

Reliable - hahahaha, sorry had a moment there but the quick answer is no.

The bus leaves Cruz Bay (currently) at 6am 8am 10:20am 1:20pm 3:20pm 5:20pm and 7:20pm and right now these times are pretty accurate but last week our only bus broke down so it didn't run for a day and a half.

It runs through the center of the island so you can be dropped off at the Cinnamon Bay trail head and the Reef Bay trail head then continues to Coral Bay and out to Saltpond so pretty much the only beach is Saltpond so none of the North Shore beaches, you also have to time your return to be able to pick up the bus.

It will stop at Skinny's, Island Blues, Sweet Plantains, Aqua Bistro, Shipwreck, Miss Lucy's and the Tourist Trap but remember all of these restaurants are spread out so walking from one to the next is not really a good idea (well some of them you can but I personally wouldn't want to in the heat)

Hope this helps

Frett's taxi does make 7 regularly scheduled runs back and forth between Cruz Bay and Maho Campground--I think he charges $4 to Hawksnest, $5 to Trunk and so on, up to $8 to the Campground.
