Day 3-4 and 5 tip report

Post by cindygad »

Day 3 relaxation is really starting to sink in. Up with the birds and headed to Linsterbay. We took John horn trail to Guardhouse an easy 10 min walk to beautiful overlook, Went on up to Windy hill. This is first time we had did these trails. I guess we are always in a hurry to snorkel Waterlemon. It is really worth taking the time. This was the calmest day we have ever had to snorkel Waterlemon. We went to Francis bay for the afternoon. We relaxed and did a late afternoon snorkel at Francis. The thing we are finding out is each time you snorkel it really depends on many factors how the snorkel is. Last year this was a favorite snorkel and this year it was just ok.

We have always wanted to try La Planche Del Mar and decided tonight we would. Loved the location at Mongoose Junction and ate outside at the rail. We had our favorite waitress of the whole trip Mary Kay,We both had the passion fruit margarita that required a second round. I had seafood lugini with white wine butter sauce and my husband had Paella ale Planche. We both thought they were excellent.

Sunday we did the trail to Brown Bay. It takes us about a half hour going at slow pace. This still remains a favorite snorkel for us. We had good visibility and snorkeled to the right. We find this to be a colorful snorkel around the point and the reef interesting here. It needs to be a calm day or it can be rough due to the Sir Frances Drake Channel.
We went to Haulover South to read but could not find enough shade and headed to Skiney legs. Had a bushwacker or two and maui maui sandwich and watched some football.

Monday one thing I like is going to Trunk Bay around 8-830 to walk the beach. It was only us and the lifeguards working out. They told us from one end of the beach to the other end is 1/4 mile. We walked a couple miles then copped a chair and read until the cruise ship groups rolled in around 10 am. You can set your watch to them. Don't get me wrong I like cruise ships and we usually cruise once a year in the fall. We did find it quite comical though watching them and realized how we have looked in the past. 31 years ago when we stopped in St Thomas for our honeymoon we took the excursion to trunk bay. Thus came our love for St John. Don't know why we did not come back until 3 years ago but know we are hooked for good.We took our cooler and chairs and went to Dennis Bay for lunch and the afternoon. It was very windy so to rough to snorkel so we just enjoyed the peace and quiet of the surf hitting the rocks.

I had a taste for something sweet so stopped at Baked in the Sun for lemon bars and coconut macaroons. Tip if you like Key Lime pie they had one for 27$ that looked really good.

Shipwreck was our destination for supper tonight. I had a seafood fettuccine and my DH had his favorite fish and chips both were good.

Great report. Thanks for bringing back some good memories. I remember the coconut macaroons from our last trip. They were that good.

I know what you mean about the allure of the snorkeling at Waterlemon keeping you off of the trail to the overlook - we still haven't made it up there.

Looks like you had a great time!
