Our Villa is for sale....Should I be worried?
10 months from now we will be on island. I know thats a long time from now but I just found out on a web site that the villa we are staying at is for sale. The rental is handled by Catered To. Does anyone think this could create a problem for us?
No, I do not think it will be an issue. I have stayed in many villas that have been for sale. I have never been asked to vacate for a showing. Also, if the home is in fact sold, the new owners are obligated to honor the existing rental contracts. Catered To is a great company, you will be fine.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
A house we rented in 2007 for a stay in 2008 is still for sale! So I wouldn't worry too much.
You could ask Catered To for a written policy on what would happen if the house was sold. I think in most cases, the rentals are honored.
In our case, the rental agency (Not Catered To) was only obligated to place us in a comparable property or return our money.

I would check the language of the rental agreement, and call the company to confirm. I'm not 100% sure the new owner has to honor the rental agreement. Being moved to another Villa might not be a deal breaker, depending on how invested you were in staying in the original one, but getting refund and running the risk of not finding something else would be problematic.

As a Real Estate agent we require 24 hours notice to be able to show a home to a customer (very few times if someone walks into our office are we able to get into a home right then and there - maybe 1% of the time) so I am sorry Jofus that happened to you - it should not have.
If there is a showing during your stay - trust me you do not have to "stage it" - just leave it exactly the way you are living on vacation - I would say all but one villa I have shown that has vacation guests staying, have unmade beds, dishes in sink, clothes thrown on the floor, wet towels thrown in the bathroom (actually I have often though "oh the poor cleaning crew at the end of this stay") and you can always say no but that is not something I like to hear
