Casa Bueno or Bay Rum Breeze?

Post by thriftytraveller »

We are traveling to St. John for the first time and have narrowed it down to Casa Bueno or Bay Rum Breeze. Both look amazing... Casa Bueno is "tried and true", Bay Rum Breeze is brand new, so not a lot of reviews available. Does anyone have an opinion as to which to go with? We are traveling in July. Thanks!

How many in your group?
Casa Bueno is on my short list. I've been through the house and it's really a great house with easy access and all paved road. Three bedrooms are pretty equal with the 4th bedroom OK for a kid or one person but I don't think there's a closet down there if I recall.
Bay Rum Breeze is up on Mamey Peak. Expect a bumpy ride on this road but we have it rented for 2 weeks in May and we're pretty excited about trying this new villa.

Just 2 in our party- me and my husband. Do you know how private Bay Rum is? Are there villas that abut the property or overlook it? Also, do you know if Bay Rum is completely finished, and if hot tub will be up and running? I imagine even though it will be warm in July, a hot tub might be nice on a breezy evening. Also, do you know how well stocked the villa is- kitchen, linens, etc.?

I have had a couple of e-mails from the owner of Bay Rum Breeze. The last one said that the hot tub was on premise but hadn't been installed but that was a month or so back. I haven't been in the villa so I can't give you details about this house at all except for the pictures that I've seen. I don't know just how close the nearest villa is either but my guess is it's pretty private. I expect this house to be well appointed. I know the owners were there recently. If you go to their website http://bayrumbreeze.com/ you can contact them directly with questions.

Bay Rum Breeze

Hi, I'm Ellen, the owner of Bay Rum Breeze. The hot tub is working now. I think the kitchen is quite well-equipped. In fact, it was Diana2 that suggested we get a toaster oven (great idea).

Whichever you choose, I'm sure you'll have a great time on St John.

Bay Rum Breeze is on our list for December! Looks like the owners have thought of all the creature comforts!!! Look at those cushions on the patio furniture!!!! I get frustrated when villa owners don't think of guests' comfort first! And the price looks great too!
