Coming back to USVI

Post by Jôhn »

Booked a trip for late February, haven't been down there since 2005. Has anything changed? Would love to hear of any new, can't miss restaurants or other points-of-interest.

Thanks in advance!

You have to try La Plancha del Mar in Mongoose Junction. Really good!

WOW, 5 years is a long time for nothing to change, haha. Surely there's some new stuff on island.

bevm, thanks for the tip!

Traffic circle, St John Market, parking fee at Caneel Bay, Pond Bay, Dittlef, tax rates, wind power...
When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

It's gotten more crowded in the off season but that's about it, not sure about February though.

The car barge comes in at a new place.
There is a traffic circle where the gas station once lived.
Lots of other small changes.

Cruz Bay now has a dock for the cruise ships, and the town is now lined with high rise all inclusive hotels. Maho has been turned into a full nudist resort and casino. There is now a 18 hole PGA golf course in Coral Bay. Trunk Bay now has a huge waterpark. Be careful of the power shoot water slide. It will give you a wedgie. The Mermaids Chair has been left untouched. You will find me there with a cooler of beer.

In reality. Its still the same island with great people. Welcome back!

Red Hook has this large new terminal that you leave from. Very different than the small shack we saw 5 years ago. Cruz Bay seemed busier to us. Uncle Joe's is still in the same spot. HAve fun!

Only one gas station on the island now. The one in Coral Bay closed. North Shore Road was repaved. Can't think of any other big changes.
Leap, and the net will appear.

@brenda, Thanks!!! Great run down of on-island events!

@Chet, traffic circle sounds interesting, how have people adapted?

@Boston Mike, LOL, had me worried at first. ;) Let's hope none of that ever happens!

@northerngal, Glad to hear Uncle Joe's is still around. Love the ribs.

@Trvl John, Guess I'll have to remember to fill up before heading east. Thanks.

Really appreciate all of the info, can't wait to get down there on the 22nd.
