Road from Salt Pond to Lamshur and beyond

Post by Capn Dan and Ruby »

Ya Know, I feel like such a newbe asking all these questions, but this is our first solo trip and we have always relied on our friendly driver Mr. Greyhoundmom. We were looking on google maps and saw a road from Salt Pond to Lamshur and on to Centerline Rd. Is that a real road or will we find our selves damaging our rental car to travel it? Is it better to go back to Coral Bay to get to Centerline?

The road ends at Little Lamshur. If there ever was a road it's been consumed by the forst.

I think what you see on some maps is the track up to the Ranger's House at Lameshur. Beyond the track is a trail called the Bordeaux Mountain Trail. It is really only negotiable on foot, but is in pretty good condition, with USGS survey markers going all the way up to Bordeaux mountain. (DH is a surveyor, and he always looks for survey markers.) It very well could have been a track all the way up some years ago, but you could definitely not get through now in a vehicle.

As someone mentioned on another thread recently (or perhaps it was on another forum...), Bordeaux Mountain Trail just pops out on a road very near the summit of Bordeaux Mountain. And, although it's a nice trail, there is really only one spot that gives you any view.
