She is right ... Please no surprise parties, unless you define party as pre-booked roundtrip airfare to STT, a ferry ride to STJ, and a lovely villa for a week! That surprise party I am game for ANY TIME!

My husband planned our honeymoon without ever telling me where we were going. He did say we were going somewhere warm so I was able to pack for it. I didn't find out where we were headed until we were on our second flight and the pilot announced it. He said we were going to Punta Cana and I said, "That's great! Where is it?" LOL!

Girls/women like to have what they need on vacation so maybe this is a nice compromise.

Do a little scavenger hunt for her. Leave a bottle of rum at home for her to get when she gets home and a drink recipe (maybe something yall had on your HM. Then give her a few more clues. End it with her suitcase and buy her a new b. suit and have it in there with tickets ans oics from your honeymoon. I would do it one week before you leave. OR Maybe tell her you have to go somewhere with work and you want her to go with you and then at the airport say -Wait a minute I dont want to go to Miami- Lets just go get on that plane to STJ. She'll love it!

oh wow!!! Your wife must be a "gem"!!! A clue a day sounds like a fun idea!!! Or, a little "hunt" where you leave a clue in the form of a poem , that tells you where to look next. then go to that place ( like under a pillow amd then in the closet) so there is another clue there in poem form, and so on and so on, until by the last clue there enough hints that she can guess. and maybe have that jar of sand there waiting. We did this for our girls when we took them on the Disney Cruise.

Do you plan on a trip to BVI? If so you will need a passport too!

Now that the serious side is over I wish hubby could surprise me like that but since I write the checks to pay the bills it would be difficult to pull off.

I would tell her as late as possible if she has swim wear already. If not you will need to tell her in time to shop for that. I personally cannot have anyone buy that for me. Hubby would dress me really scary so I would need to do some shopping but if you tell her you are going to the beach, say in Florida, then go to St John instead I'm sure she would be Very excited!!! I know I would!

If my husband did this for me, and he never would,as I am the planner, I would want the full surprise! Pack her bags for her or have a good friend do it, anything forgotten she could find at Mongoose Junction. Arrange for the babysitter, give them enough money to get the food they may need and extra for movies, bowling, emergencies. Leave a list of Dr's, dentists, plumber, handyman,Vet, etc for emergencies. Leave a note for emergency care if a child gets injured or sick. Arrange for carpool to activities if they need it, usually a good friend would be able to do all of this for you if they know the childrens schedule. I wouldnt tell her she is even going away till the car service picked you up to go to the airport. And I wouldnt tell her where your going till she guessed it or you check in for your flight. I have always imagined doing this for my husband, but his business is too complicated to just whisk him away without warning.
To me it would be the ultimate luxury surprise to have my spouse plan every detail and I do not have to do anything. I always get so stressed trying to leave everything just perfect before going away so that things run smoothly, it would nice to be carefree just once. You are an awesome hubby!

Wishedyouwerethere made a good point about before vacation primping, if you are going to do the total surprise, get her a day of beauty the day before you go, with a pedicure, manicure if she does that, legwaxing if she does that too.
Also ScottB did a trip report I think either in November or December and he planned a great surprise trip, you might get some good ideas from him.

I pulled off this surprise for my wife for our 20th. Of course, this was before all of the airline regulations so it was much easier. I scheduled a week in Laguna Beach for us. I had a great time with it. Had to make arrangements with the parents of her day care kids. Had to get the family involved for watching our kids. Had to train another pitcher for my daughter's parent pitch softball team (that one was tough as I always pitched and she couldn't figure out why I would ever turn that job over to anyone else). Bought all new toiletries, hair dryer, etc. Took the suitcases out to the airport several hours early, checked them and got our tickets. She loves the beach and loves to shop, so I stuck one outfit in her suitcase for the following day and she "had" to shop/buy what else she wanted to wear. At that time, we could go up to the airline gate, so I had a friend of hers call from Dallas and asked that we pick her up at the airport (the plane we were flying on was the return trip to Dallas). After her friend didn't get off, our girls gave her a "Have a fun trip" card. She was stunned. I feel sorry for the old guy sitting behind us trying to figure out what was going on, especially when she asked rather loudly where her underwear was

It took about six months to set up, but it was absolutely the most fun I have ever had. And she never had any idea. AND SHE LOVED IT!!

My wife is one who normally has to know what is happening so she can make sure that she has everything she might need in case there is a flood, hurricane, fire, tornado, sunshine, snow, etc, but she ended up not caring about that at all. So I would recommend doing some kind of surprise. If they are initially upset, it won't last long because wherever you are going, it will be paradise for the both of you. And the benefits are great. Except, of course, when your married male friends won't speak to you because they had to sit through "the discussion" with their wife

Wow Island Cat, your another hubby of the year! To me not having to worry about anything would be the ultimate luxury and you succeeded pulling it off for your wife. Being the Party/Vacation planner for my family, extended family and friends. For once I would like someone else to do it all. The planner has a lot of pressure on them to see that everyone is having fun and everything runs smoothly. Being a type A control freak perfectionist, I would like to see what it is like to have someone else bare that burden!
