Hawksnest Villa pro's/ cons

Post by lizzybirdy »

I just stumbled across this Villa again and don't find many reviews here??? There is good feedback on Catered To and Tripadvisor. The location is so great, price probably reflects NO AC? and perhaps that is really open? No screens in Great room? Is there anything I'm missing cause it looks like a strong contender.

Tentative plan now is next Nov. 1 week with Hubby/me & 1 Newbie
Week 2--AND WE COULD CHANGE LOCATION--Hubby/me & my brother with 2 Teens.

I'm still really drawn to Cinnamon Tarn, and tho I will consider Sunnyledge.. I think I want closer in for a 1st timer
Thanks for any feedback.

Hawksnest certainly looks beautiful. Love the open air style. However, something to consider is sometimes STJ has big-time mosquito blooms and its nearly impossible to sit outside for many people during these times. After experiencing this type of thing twice on STJ, (I had hundreds of bites), we will never stay in a villa without a screened in area.
Happy trip planning!

I think VickiH stayed there once and wrote it up in a forum post. Maybe you could PM her to get her input.

Stayed at Hawksnest 3 years ago and we really loved it. We did not have a mosquito problem at all (doesn't mean there couldn't be one). We did have a few rainy days while we were there and it was still okay. I never felt the need for AC and there were a few nites I put a long sleeve shirt on due to the breezes. Beautiful few of Hawskest and St. Thomas. I would definitely stay there again. I would be happy to answer any specific questions you may have.

We stayed close to Hawksnest villa (at Kallaloo) twice and that North Shore location has spoiled me forever.

One thing I have noticed about that house over the years of staring at it from the beach is it gets a lot of direct sun and often, the shutters are closed in the afternoon.

We stayed in that area during the winter and didn't have any bug issues but the complete lack of screens would make me a bit nervous.

Thanks for the feedback. It actually turns out to be a little over budget during THanksgiving, so probably won't happen that week.. I would be happy there, but taking 2 or 3 other people into consideration means I really have to be more discerning.
I think that is the hardest part about choosing a Villa; trying to meet everyone's needs.

Is that a pool, a spa or both? Gotta have a pool, but that's just me! The house looks great.

We stayed at Hawksnest in Feb 2009. The place has one of the best views on the island. The deck is wonderful - from breakfast right through stargazing. We didn't have any problem with bugs - though the bats made themselves right at home some nights! I didn't miss the A/C at all. The location is also terrific. We were able to walk down the driveway, across the street and hike both up to Peace Hill and down to Dennis/Gibney beaches with ease. For the price, I highly recommend staying here!!!
