The Heat is On - David Band and the Grand Bay complex

Post by longtimer »

The attached two articles appeared in Sunday's & Monday's issue of the Sarasota Herald Tribune. It's interesting how Band allegedly tangled himself into a web of lies, fraud and deceit. His first court appearance regarding Grand Bay/Bay Isles is next Monday, Jan. 24. in Sarasota. The article states the project cost 60 million on a budget of 12 million and this overage is blamed on the weather, sub-contractors and concrete. This 48 million overage has nothing to do with mismanagement or lack of knowledge of building on St. John.

I believe the trial on St. Thomas will be interested as well.

Oh my Goodness - there were some shady financial underlying problems at Grande Bay??? Who would have thought that??
Now -- Bay Isles -- Bay Mortgage - Breckenridge Homes - Kane, Abel, Rosen, Libby, Sarasota society, and all the lucky owners of this oh so Convenient and beautiful architectural edifice- now so many lawyers.... so many lawsuits -- but it is conveniently located and the Club members like it.
What will happen when they keep on finding more rocks to turn over and look under??

Exit Zero - Didn't Bay Isles want to create jobs from the get go? Look at all the work created for lawyers, paralegals, court reports, process servers, Judges, clerks, Staples for office supplies, and the list goes on and on. Don't forget the travel industry. All these people suing one another have to travel; this involves airplanes, cabs, food & lodging, etc.

Before this is over, this ordeal could be ripe for a Michael Moore documentary and definitely worthy of a CNN broadcast.

Hey local boys...we get it already. You don't like Grande Bay. It represents all that is evil to you...all that has contributed to the degradation of "your" island.

Pause. Where do you live? Was there a time that your abode did not exist on the island? When where you live was built, did it not scar "your" island's surface?

You guys really should give it a rest. Like I said, we get it.

Actually, although there are a few evil things around that are not represented by Grand Bay, that does pretty well sum it up. And, since you mention it, I don't believe where I live did scar the face of the island. I can guarantee you that not one single person on St. John complained when my house was built.

Exit Zero, There's are Staples in Sarasota. Band's lawyers need post-its and dividers to keep all the records straight for Monday's trial.

Ms. Marcia, don't you care enough about the island to ensure that an illegal building such as Grand Bay with all the zoning, building and fire code violations isn't built again in the territory? Or is it just about the owners in Grand Bay? Just think, fire code violations, knowingly endangering people's lives. I can't say for certain, but I highly doubt Hugo's house is built against fire code violations. Grand Bay doesn't meet ONE provision in any of the zoning districts, simply put, the building don't belong anywhere in the territory. If we don't start with Grand Bay, where do we start?

pete,
I pretty much always agree with you--I have to saym, here, i don't -- i think that this issue goes way beyond the issue of what some characterize as indiscriminate building/over development and really involves a guy (or group of guys (ok, not to disparage guys, maybe some ladies too) who appear to have done several things that were not on the up and up--in a very big way--they should not be allowed to to that--(or maybe i don't completely understand the issue)--

I always appreciate input from the residents. I wish they'd post more often. They have a very different perspective than occasional visitors do and are aware of issues that occasional visitors know nothing about.

Bill---thanks so much for the photo link. They're precious.
