US Air to STT

Post by Nic in KC »

Anyone use US Air to STT commonly? They are pricing good with good times right now for July, and everyone else is pricing not that great or not good times.

Are they one who typically changes schedules? It's labeled as a one stop flight in Charlotte from KC.

Thanks!

We've flown with US Air our last three trips and will do it again in July...We're coming from the Norfolk, VA area and always fly in to Charlotte. SO easy with no issues...I am sure others will have different opinions but we've done well with them...

We have always used US Airways with no problems. Never delayed or canceled.

We use USAir 99% of the time. Schedule changes were always minor, a matter of minutes, no big deal. We used to take the direct from Philly but recently have used our home airport and connected in CLT for other southern trips (FL, Mexico) with no problems at all.

CLT is a huge airport so I always am mindful of connection times and pick earlier versus later first leg flights because I don't want to risk missing the CLT-STT flight. Last trip (to Mexico) it seemed like our arrival and connection gates were at opposite ends of the airport.

We have flown USAir many times thru Charlotte, nice airport, no hassles. I don't think Charlotte is a huge airport, say in comparison to ATL!!!

All the airlines have quirks, but we have had a lot less problems with USAirways through CLT. I am looking to book a trip at end of August and the rates still seem high so I will wait. May I be bold and ask what rates you are getting?

We flew USAir through Charlotte in May 09 and had a nightmare trip. Our first flight from DC to Charlotte was delayed, and we missed the connection to STT in Charlotte. The problem was that there were no other options to get to STT that day (or even to Miami, puerto rico, or anywhere else further south where we could try to connect to another carrier (Cape Air, American, Delta)). So USAir sent us to Philadelphia that night, we stayed overnight at the Philadelphia airport, and then went down on the direct flight from PHL-STT the next day. I was so upset. We arrived on STT 24hrs later than planned, lost a day of villa rental, and had to pay for a night at the Philadelphia airport hotel. Luckily we had travel insurance, which covered the airport hotel, but not the lost villa night. Since that experience, unless there is a large difference in price, I will try to connect through a larger hub that offers more options to get to STT or at least into the caribbean in case we miss a connection (e.g. Miami, San Juan etc.) We would have still been bummed, but a lot happier if we'd been able to at least get to Miami or PR that first night!

We've flown US Airways several times from KC to STT. We've also gone Delta and American. One never seemed any more problematic than the other. Charlotte is a nice spot to change planes in comparison to say... Atlanta.

We've always flown US Air non stop from CLT. However, I've been watching fares for this June and non stop out of CLT is ridiculous. Been thinking that our best bet is out of Richmond Va (two hour drive from here) with a layover in PHL then on to STT. I've only flown into PHL once and other than circling for an hour waiting to land, we didn't have any issues. But, I've heard so many bad things about PHL since then that I'm nervous about it.

I'm rambling on, but to answer your question, we've never had a problem with USAir. It's always been flawless. If any one can calm my nerves about PHL, please feel free! LOL!!

I've flown USAir to STT via Charlotte a couple of times. I can remember two really bad trips, but I don't blame the airline. The first time, our plane had mechanical problems. At least they did not board us! We spent seven or eight hours in the terminal waiting. Door to door, that trip to STJ took 25 hours and I swore we would never come back (that was about 10 trips ago  ).

The other time we had an unruly passenger incident (aka drunk person incident). 11 AM and they were already drunk and refusing to obey FA commands. We had to wait for security to escort her off the plane, AND for the baggage handlers to locate her luggage in the hold and take it off the plane per TSA instructions--all told about a 90 minute delay while on the plane. That one really sucked because the FAs were all hyped up and looking for trouble with other passengers.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

We always fly US Air through either Philly or Charlotte to the Caribbean, no big problems, just a few things to add.....

Someone up above mentioned something that I think is important when choosing flights for a Caribbean vacation. Try to fly as early as possible in the day, that way if your morning flight is delayed you can often get rebooked on one of the next flights down. Philly and Charlotte are, next to Phoenix, the biggest US Air hubs, so you want to go through one of them for sure. Its not necessarily consistent which airport has the most flights into STT, I've noticed this past year that it seems to change a bit as we get out of peak season...sometimes Philly has more, sometimes Charlotte.

Normally I'd try to avoid Philly for a mid-winter vacation, bigger chance of snow there....but seeing some of these storms down south, I'm thinking the northern airports are maybe better prepared to handle the bad weather.

As they say, 6 of one, half dozen of another?

US Air was the primary airline I used to return stateside when I was living on island. As far as airports go I love Charlotte. I recommend US Air and continue to use them.
Wish I could go when you guys will be there!
