Accomodations in Cruz Bay

Post by riverrat »

I have been searching for accomodations (villa, condo, hotel) located in Cruz Bay or close walking distance. I have looked into Gallows Point but would like to look at other options. Can you please let me know of any I am missing and your opinions of them?

Thanks!!!

We have stayed at Hillcrest Guest House 3 min outside of Cruz bay and will be staying there again in June/July. Phyllis is the owner and she is wonderful. I dont know how many people you have or how much luxury you need but Hillcrest is a wonderful option.

Is Hillcrest an easy walk to town?

Define easy? haha. It sits at the very top of a VERY steep hill. Its paved and all so the drive is no biggie but I can honestly tell you that the walk down will challenge your knees and the walk up will.....well, just about kill ya. We did it one night-that was all. We arent the most physically fit group of people granted but this hill is very very steep. Its so steep that when you go up the hill in a jeep, you have to raise up in your seat to see over the steering wheel. Its a safe hill, dont get me wrong and the view is nice, its worth it. If you have been in Cruz Bay, its right up the hill from the school. I definately dont want to discourage you, just a kind warning. We had had a few painkillers before we attempted it also---------maybe that was the problem hahahha....

Gallows is nice. I have stayed there twice and would go back. Easy walk to town, but far enough away to not hear it.

We stayed at this place for a couple of nights last fall - just above Grande Bay on Battery Hill - we'd stay there again in a hearbeat!

The above are super suggestions for Cruz Bay.

Forum member Sherban has put together a great map of St John villa locations. Close-ups of Cruz Bay may offer you some more ideas... and it is fun to simply look around at what is where on the island.

You could also look into Cruz Views and Lavender Hill.

We are also looking for a place in Cruz Bay and I love the map! Amazing what you can find these days--I remember our first trip to St. John many years ago, we arrived after dark and had an awful time finding our cottage--up and down steep hills, out in the middle of nowhere...we had no idea where we were. The next morning I will never forget opening my eyes and taking in the vista and literally catching my breath...we've been hooked ever since.
