Cruz Bay to Virgin Gorda/ another ferry question!

Has anyone taken the ferry over to Virgin Gorda for the day? How long does it take since you have to stop at the West End and hop on another ferry? How much $$?
Was it worth it?

you have to switch ferries to get to VG? I did not know this. can anyone who's done this verify?

I don't think you transfer to another ferry, costs used to be $70 round trip and takes about 1.5 hours. Laura

In our experience, it took over 1.5 hours to get to VG by Caneel's boats, that was a straight shot. I would think a regular ferry with a stop in Tortola, combined with clearing customs and the fact that you would need to be back at Cruz Bay customs by 5 pm (I think) would make the ferry next to impossible, one would spend most of the day on the boat.

Thanks all but not enough time for the $$$ and who wants to spend 3 hr on the ferry? Since I have already seen "The Baths" I'm crossing that off my list.

Still looks like the Thurs and Sunday ferries are the only ones that do the direct route between STJ and VG, and yes, it takes about 80-90 minutes. I believe that on the other days you have to connect thru Tortola. Use the pull down here on one of the better BVI ferry listings to check it out.

True dat, on the other hand it does make it handy to combine 3 nights on VG with a stay on STJ.

Right, that is our plan. To take the ferry over and stay put a few days. Do you think advanced reservations are necessary?

In My expierence,I think reservation are needed depending on the season. I make them for anything in high season, just to be sure. I also book things for high season earlier like villas & Jeeps. I always make dinner reservation during high season, even though I don't thing most restaurants even write anything down. It's just a phone call. I would rather call and make a reservtion for the BVI ferry that get up, park and go to the ferry, only to be turned away. Just my 2 cents.
