Need some east end advice

Post by Muhaha »

Hey everyone,

12 days to go and super excited. The wife and I are looking to spend a day on the east end, since we did not see much of it during our first visit last summer. We're hoping for some advice on two east end questions:

- Where is the best snorkeling on this side of the island.
- What is the best chillin beach on the east end?

Mucho Gracias, in advance!

We thought the snorkeling at Haulover North was great - the coral to the left was beautiful! For relaxing, you can't beat a day at Vie's - we love going there.

I agree with the above. Sometimes Haulover North can be too rough. If so, Hallover South is also excellent. Also good snorkeling at Vies . No beach, but good snorkling at Princess. Mangrove snorkling, it's very different and weird, but you see lots of good stuff.

Agree with the Haulover North plaudits. We also have enjoyed snorkeling at Haulover South, Pelican Rock, Vie's, and Brown Bay, all on the east end. No matter which way the wind is blowing, at least one of them is bound to have decent to excellent conditions for snorkeling.

As far as chilling, it would have to be, hands down, Vie's.

Love the east end!
Come see us!

Enjoyed both Haulovers.... but our favorite still for a day of kick back and snorkeling is Lameshur.

Haven't snorkelled Haulovers yet, but they're on the list. The problem is that we make a beeline for Miss Vie's! Just wouldn't be vacation without spending a couple of days there.

I have a question about Lameshur...

Is there only one way to get there by vehicle. The reason I am asking, is that there is a small stretch where the road is washed out. This was on the road coming from salt pond.

On google maps there looks like another road that comes from the north.

Thanks in advance.

Road to lameshur

i was at lameshur today. The road is fine. There was a new looking white kia sedona minivan there. It's bumpy-i think the clearance of a 4wd would be better

Thanks all for the excellent suggestions.

How do you get to Haulover north? We drove this area on a rainy day last summer and we "think" that Haulover south is on the right, just past Vie's, with a small parking area. The area to the left seemed pretty dense...is there a trail to get there from Haulover south?

You get to the haulovers before you get to vies. There is a little parking on the south haulover side of the road. You can see s. haulover from the road. North haulover you must go down a short easy trail. Look at a map, haulovers are right where the island gets really skinny before it gets wide again.

Thanks for your reply...

Last year in May there was a small stretch that the road was washed out with jagged rock exposed. It was quite scary. We made it though with white knuckles and all.

They must repair that stretch a lot.

But we noticed on the map that there could be another access into Lameshur and was wondering, if it is an alternative.?

I've got to agree with the Haulover North crowd. Once you get there snorkel off to you left. Great spot.

Iggy, that road that shows on some maps has not been drivable since the mid-1960s--it's now a hiking trail. They finally broke down and paved the bad section of the road going up the hill this past year. VI National Park had wanted to keep it a little harder to get to, but with the proliferation of rental villas around Coral Bay in the past 10 years, they bowed to the inevitable.

Thanks Hugo, we will check it out this May. worst case we would walk down from the top, but it would be a long walk. We love the beach at lil lameshur and the the snorkeling is pretty good at Great Lameshur.

Thanks again!

The trail comes all the way down from the Bordeaux Mountain Rd very near the summit and as of last month when we hiked it was in good condition. It's only about 1.2 miles.
