I really like the looks of most Pottery Barn pieces. DD's bedroom furniture is from PB Teen. Not sure if it's relevant but we're happy with the quality and service/delivery.
We have 3 couches (2 slip covered) and 2 chairs and an ottoman (all slip covered) from Crate and Barrel. We really like the slipcovers and the furniture has held up very well - even the couch in the basement that gets jumped on and generally abused. Pia's right that a new set of slipcovers isn't cheap, but it is a really nice option to have. (I've gone through one round of replacements.) C&B has a slip cover sale every September - 25% off if I remember correctly.
We also have several other furniture pieces from C&B. It's right next to Pottery Barn at our local shopping mall, but PB doesn't have much of their furniture on display and C&B does, so C&B has been better for us because we can see it in person.

Re. leather and cats. I would love to have a leather sofa. But our cat ruined an inexpensive chair we got right after getting married. So now I am gun-shy.
Would love to get rid of that cat for more reason than one. Would also like to get rid of the dog, the guinea pigs, the gerbils and the hermit crab.

Hi djmom: the fabric I used has a raised textured pattern, similar to a brocade. We didn't have pets at the time but our kids were young (around 3 and 5) so the furniture got some abuse. I think the worst spill we had was a full glass of Bailey's. Red wine might be an issue, but it's like getting wine out of anything. (I splattered red wine all over a new white denim jacket literally within an hour of removing the tags. I ran home from the party and soaked it in bleachy water overnight and amazingly all the spots came out. So... you never know.)djmom wrote:Chicagoans,
Do you have the white cotton duck slipcovers?
Animals in the house?
What about stains, I'm mainly thinking red wine.

Thanks for the info on C&B. I picked out a dining table from there called Eastport. That room is next on the list. I like their upholstered/slipcovered furniture -their Lounge line is great-but for this room I am looking for something with a higher back and deep seating.chicagoans wrote:I really like the looks of most Pottery Barn pieces. I love the PB Teen stuff. The bedding for girls is terrific. Glad to hear the wood furniture is of good quality as they have some pieces that I like.
Half my problem is I want my new house to be DONE. Took me 15 years with the last house but when I left it was exactly what I wanted. Trying to be patient and the decorator I met with was terrific. I'm trying to slow down and take it one room at a time. My old house was an antique with clearly defined small spaces so it was easier to do that. This house is more open so I find myself having a tough time focusing on one space at a time and working with rooms of a larger scale. So many of the furniture pieces and art I loved in my old house look like little pieces of clutter in this house.
