Drinking Water?
This is our first trip to St. John and we were wondering can you drink the water at the place you are staying.

Since the water in the homes comes from a cistern, I have no problem washing in it, but I prefer to use bottled water for drinking and brusing my teeth. Also, remember to use bottled water to make ice cubes. It won't kill you to drink water out of the tap (and your villa may have a water filter), but I just don't.
You can get a good deal on bottled water and ice at the Lumberyard, so I'm told.

We installed 2 filters plus one UV light filter in our villa. Now we drink the water with absolutely no problem. However, if I visit a restaurant and have a drink made with ice cubes, it gives me the Montezuma revenge. I easily take care of it by taking bifidophilus that I bring from the health food store. It's found in the refrigeration section. It can stay good without being refrigerated for at least 3 days. We always bring a bottle when we visit. I'm sure Chelsea Drug Store has acidophilus, which is less potent, but does the job. If your villa doesn't have a filtration system, you should buy drinking water and ice. St. John Ice is in Cruz Bay and very reasonable. Enjoy your stay!
Bravo Seagrape for installing the filters! When we stayed at Sailview last month, they'd added Brita filters to the suites. I know many of us try to be as green as possible in our daily life, and I must say, coming to a beautiful place like STJ and buying & discarding plastic bottles without any opportunity for recycling, was really starting to bug me.
Those Brita filters saved us about $50 during our vacation, but also saved the land fills. I encourage all villa owners to either install filters or buy the Brita products.

Many villas do have multi-stage filters with UV. Ask you agent and ask to see the filters. We stayed at one villa the proudly stated that they had a filter but when we inspected it the filter was way over do for a filter change so we bought water for that house. The water from the Lumberyard is cheap. Better safe than sorry.
