Blue Papaya Trip Report Part 7

Post by Lindy »

Part 7 - Mon Nov. 15th - Our last full day.......how could it possibly be here SO soon????! Seems like we just got here. Today we decided on Honeymoon Beach because it was the most beautiful day of our week weatherwise. Mr Bill and I were moving a little slow, but we eventually got ourselves together and were off. We parked at Caneel an hiked over to the beach. There were quite a few people on the beach when we got there, but none of them stayed very long. Many of them were off of the boats tied at the mooring balls and must have been from cruise ships since they screamed like little children each time a wave hit them.

Mr. Bill was doing reconnaisance from the sea grape trees and spotted a woman who decided to sun herself topless even though it was far from private there. She eventually put the top of her bikini on again after the guys kept taking "walks" down the beach with their cameras and Mr. Bill embarassed himself by acting lewdly in public.

Most of the other people left (maybe it had something to do with nine crazy old people playing with a Mr. Bill doll) so we had the beach to ourselves much of the day. Again, some of us got bored so we headed back to Caneel to have a drink and to "sacrifice" ourselves for the benefit of the group so that we wouldn't have to pay for parking. On the walk back we came across a huge, handsome iguana enjoying a bite to eat next to the trail. He kindly posed for a picture and then sauntered off into the brush, but not before he eliciting a few blood curdling screams from some women who wanted to know if he was "real". Apparently they were confused and thought that they were on the Jungle Cruise at Disney World. Maybe they thought the resort had mechanical creatures around the grounds for their enjoyment. No wonder he left!

We rinsed the sand off our feet - funny how good that feels after a few days on the island. Then we grabbed a couple sofas at the outdoor bar and ordered up some frozen drinks and snapped a few more pictures. The rest of the group showed up at about that time so we were ready to leave. On the way out, we spotted some deer grazing on the lawn - we've seen them just about every time we've stopped at Caneel but it's still a treat. They are so tiny and dainty compared to the deer at home.

That night the entire group went to Lime Inn for dinner to celebrate Brad's birthday. I tried the Caribbean lobster which was good, but I fear I've become spoiled since I've most to the East and have access to Maine lobsters. I missed cracking the big claws....I could have taken out some aggression imagining them to be the wild-haired coughing man who had surely infected me with some sort of uber-germ since I had COMPLETELY lost my voice by this point. I comforted myself with a second mango colada so don't feel too sorry for me!

After dinner it was back to the villa for birthday cake and more music by Brad on the deck. (Mental note: tell Brad to name his act Music by Brad on the Deck....) We were all pretty subdued....okay, depressed because our trip was coming to a close. We all took mental snapshots of the stars and the lights reflected on the water. That was going to have to hold us until the next trip............sigh (times 9)...............

Hey Lindy !
Great reports of Blue Papaya and your trip. We stayed at Blue Papaya this past summer and at another villa in Virgin Grande estates over Thanksgiving. Just wondering if you heard the constant whining/humming noise of the Westin's generator ? We love the Virgin Grande area but cannot stand that noise. The noise seems to travel up the hillside. One of the locals told us that when the island calls for more power, instead of rolling blackouts they make the Westin turn on there generator first.

I don't recall hearing anything like that when we were there. The bedrooms were fairly sound proof at night and we were gone mostly during the day. With nine people there wasn't much silence....hahahahaha!!!
