Ferry question - STJ to JVD on a Thursday?

Post by 17th Hole »

So we're going to fly in Wednesday, spend the night on STJ and then go to JVD on Thursday for 2 nights. Then back to STJ for the week.

According to the ferry schedules on VINOW, the ferry that runs from STT/STJ to JVD doesn't run on Thursdays. There is the ferry that runs to West End, Tortola daily however.

My guess is that we take the ferry from STJ to West End and then pick up another ferry from West End to JVD. Is this correct?

Coming back, we would just take the direct ferry straight back to STJ.

Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better way.
Thanks all!

Why aren't you just going from STT to JVD? Spend 3 nights on Jost and then a week on STJ?

A couple of reasons - we're flying Spirit Air down so we're not placing any bets that we'll make it to St Thomas at a decent enough hour to get over to JVD at a reasonable hour. We'd rather not take the chance that if we get in late we'd have to rely on making it over to JVD for someplace to sleep. We're going to play it safe and just relax and crash on STJ for the night. That way we can just get up, have some breakfast and have the whole day to make our way over to JVD and maybe stroll around West End Tortola for a bit.

Good question though and it was our first plan.

So, is my ferry plan correct (do you know)?

I would say that you are correct. The STT- SJ- JVD ferry only runs Fri, Sat. Sun. Maybe one of the locals knows another (secret) way. Is a private water taxi an option $$$.

Hey Dan I know ya guys have done the Baths. If ya get a chance check out Spring Bay. Quite possibly one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. Well at least the best I've set foot on yet. Have FUN!!!

Who knows ya might get it to yourselves if your lucky!

Kirk,
Spring Bay looks AMAZING!!! Will definitely try to check it out.

I just booked us two nights at the Perfect Pineapple on JVD! Really looking forward to it! We'll probably spend most of our time parked at the Soggy Dollar but on the off chance we sober up enough to venture out, are there any "must see" places to go to while we are there?

We've been to Foxy's and all the places near the Soggy Dollar. We've really only done the day-trip thing to JVD so this will be our first chance to explore a little more. We aren't planning to rent a car. Taxis should get us around OK, right?

Hey Dan

Yep...your ferry plan is correct. The STJ-WE ferry runs 3 times on Thurs and the WE-JVD ferrry runs 4 times after the earliest STJ-WE arrival. You'll want to double-check (a call would be wise) just to be on the safe side.

On JVD, its all beach bars as far as White Bay and Great Harbor go. You might think about heading to Abe's, Sidney's or Harris' at Little Harbor just for a change of pace. Taxi's will get you around just fine.

The Bubbly Pool won't be bubblin unless there are storms.

A Day Sail to Sandy Cay would be fun.

One possibility that a young, fit couple (like you guys) did while we were at Sandcastle was to hike/climb up the cut on the extreme west hillside of White Bay. You see it in all of the pics that include that side of the bay. They said it was only moderately challenging and the view over the hill was awesome.

Actually, beyond limin' there isn't a whole lot to do on JVD.

Kirk...We did 4 nights at Guavaberry Spring Bay a few years back and you are correct, sir. The swell was up and it was STILL awesome!

Spring Bay is as good as it gets and well worth going out of your way for. I would rank it as by far the #1 small beach I've seen.Image

interisland ferry

This link shows the interisland ferry schedule.
When you are on St John and you go to purchase your ferry ticket to the BVI do you know where to go? The ticket booth is not the one you see that is right on the dock in Cruz Bay. It is one of the little buildings immediately on the left as you would exit the main ferry dock. You will need your passport at this point. Have a great time.

Ahh...good to know! I actually wasn't sure but figured if I asked around I might find it. I figured it was probably somewhere down around the dock area. Thanks for help! Can't wait!
