What are you reading?

Just started Stephen King's new novella collection- Full Dark, No Stars.

It's good. King is a master of the short/long story. Skeleton Crew is one of the best collections of short stories ever.

You know a story's good when you think about it later. I thought about it later and not in a warm fuzzy sentimental way. I thought about rats. In the walls. Ew.

So far it is a thumb's up.

Thanks for the review. I did pick this book up at the book store the other day but had not read anything about it yet so did not buy it. I love Steven King. I love hearing that his recent book gets a thumbs up.

I loved The Help as I was reading it, but I did feel like the ending was kind of just blah. I think I was expecting more, if that makes sense. The book was so dynamic and then the ending was ho-hum. Or maybe it just didn't end the way I thought it would...

I am glad to see the recommendations on The Glass Castle. It keeps coming up on our list for book club, and the description from Amazon didn't appeal to me. If it is selected, I will look at it more positively.

I am reading The Kite Runner now. Not too far into it, but I am not sure what I think yet.

I do think the Glass Castle is a good book and it would make for great discusion at a book club.

It amazes me how the author broke the chain of dysfunction. As a parent, it was very hard to read about how truly awful the children's lives were as a result of the parents' actions. Also, I knew similar families when I was a child and the book hit close to home in a not so good way.

Can't say I liked the Kite Runner. It really bummed me out.

I'm still slogging my way through "Freedom." I'm about 2/3 of the way closer to done. I'm not saying I don't like it, but it's definitely not one of those books where I'll be sad to have it end.

I am glad you said something, I did not like it at all, and almost didn't finish it. It was one of the most frustrating books I have ever read.

I can appreciate the author's attention to detail and the way he really links his character's past to their personalities and life choices but I felt enough is enough people! I got so tired of reading about silly, shallow people doing really stupid things to screw up their lives.

Did I tell you all that we read "Skinny Dip" for book club? People here at work had been raving about it, and I really liked it. I think part of why I liked it is because my brother lives in South Florida so the area where the story took place was familiar to me. But it very creative and interesting to see where the story would go next.

Talk about fun books, all of his are good. Dang, can I just put "Freedom" down and start reading what I want?

Great. Thanks for the motivation to finish the dang thing. It could have been so much better if it had been half the length.

I didn't get Stephen King's new book yet but I did pick up a copy of one of his older books of short stories "Just After Sunset". I usually don't like short stories but this one is pretty good. The final story is called "A Very Tight Place" and it was a little too graphic for me. Let me just say the story involves a port-a-pottie.

I loved that book!

I have quite a collection of Carl Haasen books and love them all. We moved to Florida last month and I decided to keep them in my library for company to read when they come down to visit and want a fun beach read.

Finished "How to Be Lost" by Amamda Eyre Ward yesterday. This is a fictional story of a little girl who goes missing and the effect it has on her family, especially her two sisters. A bit of a page turner.
