Affordable Villa Suggestions
Building on the discussion in the poll about trading off luxury lodging for more frequent trips, I'd like to hear if anyone has any suggestions for reasonably priced villas. It seems to me that the villas are breaking into two separate groups: new, high end luxury villas with lots of amenities that run over $500/night in off season, much more in season, and older villas that may be run down or shabby, with deferred maintenance issues.
So, does anyone have suggested villas that are clean, well maintained (no holes in screens, pesticides/bug spraying up to date), furnishings in good shape (no tears, stains, saggy cushions etc.) (don't have to be high end or latest style), linens in good shape (not threadbare, but don't have to be Lilly Pulitzer $300 comforters!!), appliances that may not be top of the line stainless, but are not rusted out.
Any suggestions appreciated!

I think that Morgan Point is a deal and a half in my book, if you are looking for a larger villa with all the bells and whistles

Depending on how many of you there are, Perelandra could 'fit your bill.'
Very neat, clean, well-maintained, nicely-furnished, great views, nice private pool, close to everything, but it's small (fits 1-4 very comfortably but not more)and, IMHO, well-priced.
If there are only 2 or 4 of you at most, you could also fit comfortably into many of the condos which tend to run less than most of the villas (but that definitely is not always the case; e.g. Perelandra is definitely less per night than Gallows--though nothing against Gallows, I like them both, but prefer the privacy, and a little bit away from town, of Perelandra when I can stay a week or more). If only for a short trip or stay (2-4 nights), then Gallows is great.

Beat me to it. Good price and you get 3 large BR, a pool, hot tub and an amazing deck. Nothing inside if overly fancy but it all works and is up to date. the house is very well cared forXislandgirl wrote:I think that Morgan Point is a deal and a half in my book, if you are looking for a larger villa with all the bells and whistles

Since we take our big trips over the holidays, we only look at affordable villas. (Holiday rates are usually at least twice the low season rates which really limits what we look at.
)
So, first trip, with 2 other families, 10 people total, we stayed at Starlit Escape. Worked out great for us and we loved the Happy Hour Tower!
Second trip, just the 4 of us, stayed at Rhumb Runners. Great view and pool! Inside access BR's which is great when traveling with kids. Paved road. Loved this place!

We will be returning to St John this spring and have found a relatively inexpensive, but seemingly well kept villa called Beas Maison. www.vrbo.com/20585 The family that owns it lives there in the winter and returns to New York during the summer months.
Life is an adventure.

Have been wanting to stay at Tesseract for some time now. Great upper Chocolate Hole neighborhood and some nice upscale neighbors. Large pool. The house has recently been sold. It is managed by Privatehomesvi.com.Many of their homes are very resonable. Sago Palms is drop dead gorgeous and is resonable for its amenities. Altimira is also beautiful but has no A/C so it could be an in-season bargain.
wow linward--that is really reasonable! we'll have to look into that one.Linward wrote:We will be returning to St John this spring and have found a relatively inexpensive, but seemingly well kept villa called Beas Maison. www.vrbo.com/20585 The family that owns it lives there in the winter and returns to New York during the summer months.

I will admit up front to this shameless self promotion but I think our villa Monkey No Climb at www.monkeynoclimb.com has much to offer. The Monkey was built in 2008 and everything was new. We are well priced and very high on the mountain, have first class views and quite private. Our neighbor's house is Skyflower which was built in 2007 and has great views and is also reasonably priced. Lots to choose from if you look.
LOVED LOVED LOVED Sago Palms.
If not for trying a new villa each trip, I'd be back there in a second. Absolutely delicious, and more than cost effective if you fill up all 3 bedrooms. Each has ac, and an incredible view. All very private, and the bathrooms are like Greek Orgy Showers! Mucho Large-o!
Also check out www.vrbo.com/304755 .
New rental called Jumbie Villa.
Staying there next Spring;- can't wait!!!
Good luck, and always

I loved Tesseract. When we went two years ago, I think it was like $350/person for a week(there were five of us). We had plenty of room and the PHPV folks are awesome. I think all of their properties are pretty reasonable. It wasn't fancy, but the kitchen had an amazing view (as the cook of our group, that's my only real requirement), tons of great outdoor space, including an awesome outdoor dining room, and an awesome pool. Plus, it's close to town (although it did get a little loud one night from some neighboring vacationers).
