Shipping computers

Post by loria »

Hi Forum friends--I need some ideas and assistance shipping computers--a friend put out the notice that Guy Benjamin school needed computers--i was able to convince our foks here to donate 8-10 computers that are (in institutional terms) fully depreciated--and set for replacement--the techonolgy person at the school (mary burks, who sounds just lovely) can arrange to get them onto a container bound for St John from FLA (i think for free--which is super) --but i need to figure out how to get them from NY to FLA--
these are not small items--(Dell Optiplex Gx260 minitower chasis) --SO--any ideas? is anyone driving from new england/NY area to FLA after the new year? does anyone have an 'in' with a shipping service that would want to donate some or all of theri services --or does anyone have ANY idea of what it would cost ?
thanks for any ideas--i am so happy to be able to keep these out of the landfill and put them to good use--now just to make it happen!!!--oh and PS--they need monitors! if you have old /spare monitors.....let me know (or let them know!)
thanks

I don't know if you're in NYC, but Tropical shipping can ship from Kearney, NJ down to tropical in Miami. I don't know if they'll give you any discount.

You won't have to get them in Florida-Tropical will ship them directly to St John.

there is a chance that i can get them from FLL to STJ for free --so if there is a significant cost difference it might make sense to ship them to FLA and then get them put on a container there--however-there are all sorts of potential pitfalls to that plan.....
