Produce availability
Produce availability
Hey All,
We're leaving for St John in 6 days! Our first time in a villa, and we're excited about being able to prepare some of our own meals. We're working on getting some meal plans together.
Having never shopped for produce on St John I'm not exactly sure what's going to be available. I was quite surprised by what I found in a supermarket in the BVI's earlier this year.
Specifically, we're wondering if we'll be able to find Avocados, Sweet Potatoes and Plantains?
Thanks!
M

Dolphin Market is considerably cheaper than Starfish, and they have a good produce section. They don't have much in the way of fresh meats, but their produce is good. Starfish is the best one stop market, but they are also the most expensive. On some items I've seen, they are triple the price of Dolphin. You should have no problem finding the items you are looking for. Maybe you could even try a 'local' sweet potato... they are purple and white, and just awesome! I just throw them on the grill and let them roast. The outside will get black, but the inside will be delicious!
I've always seen lots of sweet potatoes and plantains at Pine Peace market.
The largest and cheapest avocados I ever purchased were at Pueblo on STT last December (Pueblo is on the way to the ferry and would be a quick stop if you get a private taxi). They were HUGE!! I've never looked for avocados on STJ so I got nothing for you there. Sorry.
