I live about 15 minutes from Atlantic City airport and used to fly Spirit all the time, but tired of the layover/transfer in FLL....this was prior to their baggage charges. We are 1 hour from PHL and a little under 2 hours from EWR and have made at least the last 4 trips out of Newark on Continental due to direct flights and good prices. We do a park and fly at a Sheraton there and it works very well for us. I think your quoted price sounds a little high.. You have a few options to check out and I think you have time to watch all 3 for a while before booking.

I just reread the OP. The return flight at 7:45 AM... I would not risk that from STJ. I think you'd have to already be on STT to make that flight. Our return flights left later than that.

Carolyn - Yes - We still have plenty of time and most likely will at least wait till after the holidays unless something great comes along. The return flight leaving from STJ is 12:55 so just hoping they will post later flights not that the time is horrible but would just love to stay on STJ as long as we can. Right now Continental is looking the best with prices but will see what happens in the next month or so.

Car Rental

We've had two great experiences with St. John Car Rental. Reasonable rates, clean and new vehicles, and easy to work with. I'd highly recommend!

I'd go with the four door Jeep Liberty - small enough to do well on the roads, but large enough to be comfortable and carry luggage/beach gear.

Most of the car rental agencies/prices are pretty comparable. We just used C&C last week and they were great. Paris was good. Last year we went to Conrad Sutton and the woman working the counter there was extremely rude and got into a verbal shouting match with one of the guys in our group who was only trying to be helpful. Our villa greeter this year told us that she's known to be the biggest B-otch on the island and has seen her reduce customers to tears. Even though they advertise that you can park there when you go into town many on this forum have said that they were told there was no room for them when they attempted to, so be forewarned.

When I wasn't sure which jeep I wanted to rent I went to a dealer and looked at different models - good luck

I also have had good experience with St John Car Rental and a Jeep Liberty for a family of 4.

I would highly recommend your own mask and snorkle. Fins are more up to you depending on packing space. Since you are from the Bucks County area check out Indian Valley Scuba. They have a nice selection of masks and snorkles and I have always found the staff to be very helpful. Here is their website. http://www.indianvalleyscuba.com/index.html
Don't be put off by their emphasis on diving. They are more than willing to help out snorkelers as well.
