Owl's on St.John?

Post by Joppa »

I swore I heard an Owl last year but I can't find anything that says there is an Owl species on the Island. Does anyone know if there are indeed Owl's on St.John.

Thanks

I adore owls, their sound is so calming to me. We have them almost nightly here.

found this on Wikipedia:
There are 195 species worldwide and 2 species which occur in the Virgin Islands.

Puerto Rican Screech-Owl Megascops nudipes
Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus (A)

and this from the NPS and it states the Puerto Rican Screech owl has gone unreported and could be expirated from the area:

Thanks for the links. Following those links I was able to listen to their calls and determine it was Not the PR Screech owl,it probably was the short eared owl.
We are staying in a different area this year but will be listening for an owl.
Lazylane we hear them here in NH too. I've seen them several times and I love them.

Thanks
