Ahhh, I knew my fellow forumites would be full of useful info.
Thanks for the Priceline info and the hotel recommendations. I'll be bookmarking it all.
Re: flying to NYC vs. taking Amtrak. I realize the Amtrak is a 9 hour journey but I've only ever flown into airports on that side of the US. I was thinking there surely must be some kind of nice scenery along the way, is there? Or is it all flat prairie?
I plan to be in NYC from July 5-11.
The tenament museum is on my list for this trip. I was staying in the vicinity last trip but just never made it there in 8 days. Never made it out of Manhattan in 8 days either!
I've walked the Brooklyn Bridge and would do it again. Totally iconic.
Thanks for all the input so far. Keep the suggestions coming.
Thanks.

Brenda-
if the train ride is anything like the car ride--the scenery is pretty boring...and if it means 6 hours more in NYC versus being on Amtrak (which has a questionable track record at best) then for me it woudl be a no brainer....now, if you were going NY to providence RI, I would say take the train, since once you are on the other side of new haven the ride along the coast is really nice.
