I would do my best find the owner.

My daughter is studying abroad this semester and found that her wallet was missing after a trip to the Netherlands and Germany. She fretted about it for a couple of days before she received a call from the local police department. Someone had found her wallet (that had the card with her name and school address that I insisted she carry with her along with a significant amount of cash for traveling) and forwarded it to the police in her city. She recovered it with nary an item missing. When she told us about this and her amazement that it was returned. I reminded her of a trip we took to Boston when she was young and the wallet she found with $40 in it and when we gave her the choice she opted for turning it in to security at the place she found it. She didn't remember that incident until I reminded her.
Karma has it's way of catching up with you.
