trip report - #1

Post by suzi »

Background...this was our 9th trip to STJ, our first without our daughters. ( they are off to college) they could not believe that we would actually go without them! Have to say that it was different, but still wonderful! Husband and I "re-connected". One good thing with just us, is that we were able to stay at Gallows Pt. LOVE,LOVE,LOVE it there! this was our first time going at this time of year. Have always gone around girls' school schedule, June or spring break. Loved this time of year!!!! I know taking a chance on the weather ( we just missed the 18 inches of rain!)but our week was gorgeous! A few reataurants closed, as well as some of the shops, but we were able to walk right into restaurants and get a table. Go to any beach, and get a great parking spot. So few people around, so quiet. Would definitely go again in the fall.
the main reason why we decided to go in October, was that my brother and sister-in-law were working at Maho Bay campgrounds, through the volunteer program. They are there for the month of October, so we HAD to come down and make sure that they were OK!
Thursday, Day 1
Left from BWi instead of Philly, because we saved about $300! Parking cheaper also, and airport so nice and efficient. We had carry on bags for the first time EVER!!! It is the way to go!
Uneventful trip, with a connection in Charlotte. Brother and sis in law met us at ferry dock. so nice to be greeted by someone we know! Such a great feeling of pulling in and feeling like you're home.
Gallows met us at dock, handed over luggage , and we walked up the hill to Gallows. Had a bottom level unit, near the pool. One, becasue it was a "classic" unit, meaning not a new updated unit, therefore less expensive, and #2 lowere level not as expensive as upper. Have to say that the uppers do have gorgeous views, but we were able to walk right out of our unit with drinks for happy hour, without having to walk out the back, down the steps, and around the path that leads to the pool. In any event, all the units at Gallows have something to offer. Not a single one is a bad location.
Had dinner at High Tide on the waterfront in Cruz Bay. Lovely outside dining, with live music. Lime and coconut was the best! Bro left us and got their ride back to Maho, and we headed back to Gallows. Got back and NO WATER! They were very quick to fix the problem and we had water within a half hour. Ready to start vacation!!!!!
