Anna Maria, FL
Pete and I are considering a "spring vacation" for just the two of us, on Anna Maria Island, FL. We would like a place where we can simply fall onto the beach. A villa, a low rise hotel with rooms on the beach...
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you.

Marcia,
My wife and I are currently on Anna Maria Island for a long weekend, our first time here. Very quiet and laid-back.
There are two main beach neighborhoods: Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach. We're staying on Bradenton, at a small group of tidy cottages called Tradewinds, situated between the Gulf and the Bay. Not gulf-front, but the beach is just across the street. Not St. John, but a lovely spot, with soft sand and clean, beautiful water.
Unless you're staying for a month, it might be difficult to find a place gulf-front. No big hotels here, all lodgings are small, local places.

Thank you, ToonMan. There is a restaurant that we've been to (when my parents lived on Longboat Key) that's on the beach, and is attached to a little hotel. Do you have a clue what the name of that place is? It's fairly close to the southern end of Anna Maria.

My husband's family used to stay here back when he was a kid in the 1960-1970's. It used to be called the Marabeach Hotel. We took our kids there when they were young and it was fun to have "Dad" show them where he first learned to snorkel. It is under a new name "The Diplomat" now but is just as wonderful and a great location.
