Yikes. Glad we chose last week for our vacation and not this week. We could tell something was moving in. Friday was very rainy, pretty much a washout, Saturday was nice and then Sunday the rains started again (we left that day). The clouds were building all week as this system moved in.

I think I'll avoid October from now on. The day we left in 2008, Omar came in.

The last look I had before dark, it looked like they were making progress and the stern was higher- so I think they had some success before dark! It was looking like a lot more rain was rolling in over STT, though :(

Colleen- are you guys returning Saturday? I sure hope you have had SOME sun- and got your hands on some more rum

I had no idea that this was going on. I pray for my island and all the people, worry about vacationers, and wish our mainland owners the best for their villas. I am so sad and shocked by the pictures I'm seeing. God Bless.

I am hearing anywhere between 11 - 17 inches of rain since yesterday, and the worst of it on St. John seems to be on the Coral Bay side. The winds drove the rain sideways from the west and southwest, and many homes were flooded. Roadways were damaged and there will be a lot of cleaning up to do, once the storm finally moves away...

Hope it's a brand new day tomorrow. I remember being stranded for 5 hours at an upstairs restaurant several years ago during a flash flood where I actually saw a car float by. The next day brought sunshine. Hope all is back to sunniness very soon.

Just got back from California (Hello, California Girl!) where it was also raining. They were digging channels on the beach at Santa Monica so the lake-sized puddles would drain into the ocean. But nature had other plans, even as we were leaving.

As ELO sang, "It's raining all over the world."

Best,

Cat

I saw someone's pictures on facebook that showed washed down rocks completely blocking a part of Centerline Road.

I am really wondering how Caneel made out...when we were there in July so much of it was underwater from the rains and this is so much more flooding.

I hope everyone is OK and that the property damage--and just as importantly, the reef damage--is not too overwhelming.

Wow this is some storm!! I can't believe how much rain is continually falling.
Now I'm hoping the roads and beaches will be okay by the end next week -

Same here! How long does it normally take for the water to clear up?
