A few comments before day#2
About USAirways- they are the only airline to offer a non stop daily to STT from Philly. And THAT is the only reason we fly them!! I think it is worth the hassle to fly USAir non stop, than take a chance with a connection. I would try Spirit, out of Atlantic City, even tho they connect in Ft. Lauderdale. A connection there is better than San Juan or Miami. Of course ANY time you fly out of Philly you risk losing your luggage, no matter who you fly!!! this couple from cleaveland, that was supposed to connect in Philly on our flight...they missed the connection and there was nothing else for them on UsAir until 2 days later!!!!! Could you imagine losing 2 days of vacation in STJ???? they finally got a flight out of Newark, NJ and thru Some out of the way place like Chicago, then to STT on American.
thurs. Apr.5- Day 2
OHHHH boy...in answer to your "construction question"...we woke to banging banging banging- 7 o clock in the morning! Major major construction noise- back hoes and dump trucks at Grande Bay. the web site for LH did mention that there was construction still going on, but after 3 years of watching this go on, I thought that POSSIBLY most of the construction would be going on inside, not outside! But no, still lots of outside construction going on. We were lucky in that there was a 3 day reprieve over the Easter weekend. We were gone for most of the daytime, so it really only woke us at 7 a.m. The workers were finished by the time we got back from the beaches. LH does have AC, one up and one down. We did end up turning it on every night so as to keep the noise level down in the a.m.
the ferry does make alot of noise, also, but did not really bother us as much. the ferry is a part of STJ . It was fun to have the binoculars handy, and watch the boats come and go. for those of you who needs peace and quiet in the morning, you may want to scratch LH off your list for another year. It is unfortunate, beacause LH is a neat place to stay. From the parking lot, it looked like only a few of the units were taken. It really seemed empty.
We hit Maho the first day. Parking was easy. snorkeled the right side- lots of the usual fish and quite a few barracuda. Snorkeled to the left around 3 hoping to see some turtles coming in, but was not much to see!!!Did see a huge lobster tho, a big big barracuda and lots of those needle fish. Oh yea...I got stung by a St. John bee under my left armpit!!!!
Happy hour on our balcony. Walked to Morgans Mango for dinner. Had reservations for 8, seated at 8:20. 1 citrus chicken, i grouper, 2 mahi mahi, 1 jerk chicken. Everyones plates were licked clean!

I also had a great experience with USAir when we came back on April 1st. Showed up at STT two hours before our scheduled flight and got in the long line. Line was not moving at all and started to hear through the line grapevine that we didn't have a plane yet. Of course, no representative from the airline would come out and give you any info. Anyway, ended up standing in line for 6 hours before I got to check-in. They sent us a plane from Philly that finally took off 5.5 hours late. Landed in Philly after midnight and was given a hotel voucher and a five dollar food credit, gee thanks! Slept for 3 hours and back to the airport for my puddle jumper to Providence.
Now that I've crossed USAir off my list, I'm running out of airlines. The only one that seems to get it is Southwest...if only they flew to the Caribbean!
