Suggestions for day on St. John with older-one?
Hi,
I will staying at Secret Harbour in STT for 5 nights with my sister and my mom (who is 78 years old). (My mom just lost my step-dad a couple of months ago and we thought it might be nice to get her away for a little distraction during the time of their anniversary.)
We will arrive on Wed., 10/20 and fly home on Mon. 10/25
I want to bring them both over to St. John for a day.
Mom does not enjoy a lot of walking and is not a HUGE sun person. So, I had thought of perhaps starting off with a 2 hour or so tour of the island. Then lunch at Caneel. I know it is expensive. But, I thought that mom might enjoy it. I just found out that Caneel will be closed thru 10/27. ARGH! So much for that plan.
I was also hoping to bring them to Trunk - but, at a time when it wouldn't be full sun. But, also during a time that we could rent a chair for mom. I am thinking that maybe Cinnamon might also have chairs to rent. Can anyone confirm that?
Anyway - does anyone have any suggestions that might help me plan the day? I don't plan on renting a car. So, will be relying on taxis.
Would LOVE recommendations for any specific taxi driver that I might be able to contact ahead of time. It would be great to have someone just for the 3 of us. Don't need to secure him for the WHOLE day. But, would be nice to just be kind of one on one for the tour of the island.
Again, now that my LUNCH idea is shot to hell. I am kind of at a loss and am welcome for suggestions for that, too!
Will be putting out separate posts for other questions I have that are more specific to St. Thomas.
Thank you all!
Sue

You could definitely find shade at Trunk and rent chairs. It's going to be less of a walk to the beach than Cinnamon, and you won't have any trouble getting a taxi back to the ferry dock.If you're touring the entire island and will be going to Coral Bay, you might want to think about eating there. Miss Lucy's is fun, and we always like Skinny Legs – but it's far from fancy. We haven't tried other restaurants there, but I'm sure many others can give you recommendations. The view as you descend down the hill into Coral Bay is breath-taking and definitely worth the trip.
I love the idea of Ms. Lucys. Of course the food is great, but the atmosphere-not many get to eat dinner with goats rotating around your table endlessly with a cool breeze and waterfront view.
She might be horrified or love it. But regardless she will have a true St. John experience that she can talk about when she gets home!

"Sponges grow in the ocean...I wonder how much deeper it would be if that didn't happen."
I'm flying my Dad and friend down for 6 days(80 & 85) I asked them about going to beach etc.One wants shade one wants sun. It's going to be interesting. I'm afraid to get them on a boat due to if one falls I'll have to live with that.I think Trunk is good, I told him if he fall's he'll hit the sand! I am looking forward to my my kids hangin out with grandpop. That's what it all about, life is short....After all it was him who turned me on to the VI's when I was a kid....
