beach day on St. Croix

Post by scrumblin »

Hey all,

We have been to St. John many times over the past 2 decades--Gallows, Westin, various villas...
Our favorite beaches are Cinnamon, Hawksnest (married there many years ago) and Trunk (on a non cruise ship day!)
We find ourselves coming up on a cruise which includes St. Croix. I've always wanted to go there and see if it could be a new getaway for us. We are traveling with our 7 year old. Can someone suggest a beach that would be similar, but not too hard to get to from the cruise stop? Ease of access and a crunchy vibe would totally trump chairs and a resort atmosphere. (Although one small bar would be highly appreciated! :D ) Does anyone have a suggestion? This is December travel.

Have you asked around on cruisecritic? They usually have tons of info from cruisers on ports and daytrips, etc..

The cruise ship pier is in Fredricksted. There are a couple popular beaches on the west end, not far at all from the pier. Rainbow beach will be busy with ship people, it’s within sight of the ship, and has a nice bar & grill. Another area popular with cruise ship people is Sandcastle, where a small ‘resort’ is located.

The most similar to Cinnamon and Trunk in my opinion would be Cane Bay, although it’s a little further away from the pier on the north shore. There’s a dive shop, with rentals if needed, and a couple of beach bars.

Enjoy St. Croix! We’ve been visiting there for the past couple of years after sampling the Caribbean on cruises.
