inexpensive villa for 4 next summer

Post by sea-nile »

SO with no influence on my part  my son wants to go to St. John next summer. It is his turn to pick a reasonable family vacation.
My husband says we cannot afford it. But if I do my research, book things early, etc I think I can plan an economical trip that would not cost more than any of the other ideas (Florida, CA, CO, etc).

I have found a few possible choices but of course a lot of you on here are the experts about this.

Requirements:
Be able to walk to Cruz Bay
Sleeps 4 adults
Under $1800 a week
pool- not absolutely necessary but would be nice
air conditioning- in bedrooms

This would be next July. What are the chances that it would be as rainy next July? I guess that is always a risk.

Thanks!

Sea-nile - Is it four adult members of your family or two couples? My daughter stayed at Serendip condos last year and loved it. It's within walking distance of town and they DO have a pool although it's small. I know that several of the units have a separate bedroom and futons or sleeper sofas in the living room areas and they have A/C. They also have nice sized balconies with a view of Cruz Bay. It would be WAY under your $1800 budget but that frees up money for other things, right? Check out their website. Everyone says the rental manager is great to work with too.

P.S. My husband and I lived in the Milwaukee area for YEARS before we moved East - last house was near Mukwonago. My son moved back there after he got out of the Army. Go Pack!

Check Schnell's Bougainvillea loft (not fancy, little worn); located up the hill past Gallows.

When we were there, the master bedroom had a King bed and a cot/daybed (I forget which). There is also a 2nd King bedroom (smaller, no private bath).

Good size "open" living/dining area. No good outside space. A/C in the Bedrooms.

Check St. John Inn - they may have rooms/suites that could combine and meet your rate.

Check Star and Hummingbird villas. All in the Frank Bay area; you may find something that you can make work.

I second Donald Schnells place. We stayed in the garden suite and my in-laws stayed upstairs. The Garden suite would be to tight a fit for your group, but upstairs would be perfect. There's no pool, but you have Frank Bay right there for snorkling. The walk to town is so easy and it's a quite street. No real place to hang out outside but the whole living room is open to the trade winds.

We liked Tesseract. It was inexpensive, but nice. Might work for your group?

I didn't see that part of the requirement until now. I am not sure that you could walk to town. I think in my PM I told you that when we stayed at Hale Lani, which was a comparable distance that people walked to the Westin and caught a taxi. But that hill is intimidating to me. It is a good little villa, especially for the price.
