Sea Grape Road

Post by edsfam »

Hello, we are trying to decide between a villa on Sea Grape Road (Villa Jumbie) and another up Calabash Boom (Moonswept). The major consideration is the condition of the road. We stayed up Calabash many years ago and the drive up & down was a bit much. Has that road been more paved recently?

Is Sea Grape Road a "better" road? Is it mostly paved? Any info on either villa would also be appreciated too. Thank you.

We stayed on Sea Grape Hill on our last visit. It is paved with switch backs ( which are better than strait up). I was not the driver but it seemed pretty good by St. John standards. Can't say about the other road.

Sea Grape Hill is paved with a few switchbacks, but we don't have a problem with any roads on St. John - part of the island experience!!

Having walked (involuntarily) all the way up Seagrape Hill Road I can attest that it is in FINE condition.

Thanks again LMG. ;-)

Thank you for the info.

Flip-Flop, I'm glad you replied. One of your recent trip reports indicating that you had WALKED the road stuck in my mind. Gotta hand it to you on that!

;-) Just in case there is any confusion I highly recommend ascending the hill in a car! Any car will do.

:) Love ya, Flippy!

Sea Grape Hill road is probably one of the best paved driveways on STJ- not even bad in the rain. Also, by car or foot, a really good (bad?) way to scar your friends for life. I have stories of both.

Yes, but I have seen the roads where you live, so St. John isn't really much different. :)

The way Flip tells it, she almost died.

So if walking according to Flip Flop standards it s very "dangerous" road

LMG- you could have had an involuntary manslaughter charge on your hands!
*Another fine scatterbrained production

It was awesome. Best hike all week! lol

The best part was RandyinMD's face when we walked in..."you walked? all the way?!?!?! now that's something I haven't even done (I think he was thinking "something I am not stupid enough to do!")you should have called me!" quickly followed by, "you want to jump in the pool, take a shower, anything?"

We asked for paper towels to dry off and soon were offered a frozen concoction that was beyond worth the walk. He is a great host. Though he needs to leave a car at the bottom of the hill for me next time!
