Last minute villa/B-day trip help needed

Post by mahojim »

Hi, all.
My birthday is coming this sept., and My Sweet Amys' aunt has offered us a free week at a timeshare of our choice;(sweeeet...)
So we were thinking of the following possibilities, and could use advice;
Sunset Ridge Villas at Estate Bethany on STJ, Blue Beards or one at Magen's Bay , STT, or maybe the Bahamas.
I already checked out Sunset Ridge a little, but looks like there's no a.c., which we honestly missed this past trip. Anyone stay there before? Lots of kids? (we're not overly interested in too many kiddies in the pool... )
Hoping to pick a place & plan for a trip this October.
Thanks for any insight.
The website for the timeshares available are at www.rci.com .
Thanks again, and always,
Smiles-

Jim,

I don't know anything about Sunset Ridge, but when I was trying to look it up, I clicked on the place in the BVIs and it looked great. I would probably see if I could go there. It'd be different, but you could still get to the USVI (you'd probably still have to fly in and boat over, I would guess), and you can't beat the price.

mahojim, We own a week at Sunset Ridge in March. Not having A/C has not been an issue believe it or not. It is located hilltop and the winds keep the air moving. The bedrooms are furnished with box fans which also do the trick.. My husband is very particular in this area and purchasing a week at this villa was a real gamble not knowing if not having a/c would affect our comfort. He sleeps with an a/c and fan here in Maine until we cannot have the windows open any more say October!!! I am not sure of the differences b/w Sept and March but from our experience, not an issue.

In rereading your post, I totally overlooked your question regarding kids and SRV. No kids (other than ours) when we are there. It is very quiet and not alot of people traffic. Most days when we are villaxing, we don't see any of the other guests. The busiest time around the villas is sunset at the pool and then there might be 2 or 3 other couples enjoying "happy hour".

Fins-
Wow.
Awesome info to digest & consider, I really appreciate the advice, thanks.
Our destination is still up in the air, but obviously my vote for Sunset Ridge is definately "in the running".
We weren't really planning for a STJ trip so soon, I think the window for the timeshare is the first or second week of October. We've been trying to beat down our credit card bills, thus, not saving/planning for a trip until next year.
If the airfare drops, I'll DEFINATELY press My Sweetie about STJ.
Between that and a Jeep rental, not sure if we're ready for it. Like I said, we're trying to "get ahead", and plan for perhaps a longer vaca next April.
If not STJ, we're looking at Busch Gardens/Williamsburg, Va., or maybe The Keys.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a drop in airfare and a surprise visit to our most favorite place on the globe, STJ.
Thanks again, and always

I hear you!! Hubby and I were trying to plan a sans kids trip to St. John in November and for all of the same reasons you listed, ours isn't happening either. (not to mention my hesitation in flying without kids)

My brother has stayed at the timeshare down in the Keys (in Marathon, I think) and I know they like to go down there when they have friends in town or just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Miami. It looks nice to me, and I have thought about going there as well.

Haven't been to Niagara Falls in years, but I did love it there. I remember it being very $$$, so it might not be the right choice if you are looking for a cheap getaway.
