This sounds like a way to set it up online, for people to add their own recipes:

Every Fundcraft cookbook customer will be assigned a unique website location at www.fundcraft.com. A Web ID number and password will be given to the chairperson at the start of the cookbook program. If the chairperson decides to use Short/Cut™ Online (type recipes online - "you create your own cookbook"), they can log on with their secure password and customize the site for the group

I think they should be fairly affordable so people can buy them as gifts for friends & family. It's better to sell 10 @ $15 than 3 @ $30.

I like the idea of color pictures on the dividers, but I don't think it's necessary to have pictures of each dish.

I don't know how you'd work out the details, but it would be neat if local merchants would carry them too. Maybe 2 or 3 on the counter near the cash register.

I donated Rick's old X-BOX to the teen center on St. John, maybe that would be a good place for the money to go. Pia helped me with that, Pia what's the official name of the teen center? I can't remember now.

If this moves forward, I suggest that you get with Paul Divine of the St. John Community Foundation. That way it can get under the blanket of a non profit 501c-3. You may be able to appeal to bigger businesses and corporations if you can make the purchase of the books tax deductible. You probably can get the printing done for a lot cheaper as well (again, a tax deductible situation). You can contact Paul, and probably start a thread on his website about all of this, at http://stjohnsummit.webs.com/

I'm sure Paul would have some great ideas about how the money could be used. I think that giving it to something that involved the kids is the BEST!

A few years back, I remember typing up a bunch of recipes and taking photographs and sending them to someone on the board who was planning to compile a cookbook...

I guess that person must not be on the forum anymore. Thank you for searching. I never have any luck when I search for things on this forum!

It does sound like a good idea, but one that requires a considerable time commitment, if it's to be done right...

It probably couldn't make money, but an online cookbook could be cool... I personally love color photos when I'm cooking, and the presence of a photo often determines whether I'm inspired to make something.

Liamsaunt would need to give us all tips on how she photographs her food so well...

This whole thing did sound familiar to me as well, Maryanne. In fact, I was just cleaning out my recipe box the other day and found something I faxed to you, around the date of the request for recipes on the linked thread. (It was the entire set of recipes you gave to me back in 2001 for that fantastic three course meal I made with the FedEx-ed banana leaves LOL).

As an aside, I need to try that grilled peaches thing, too.

You know, Maryanne, I still haven't found them anywhere in this city. I have been looking since 2001!!! (yes, it was that long ago!). If I ever need them, I know who to ask though.

What if it was all on a CD? CDs are inexpensive to produce, and there could be a ton of color pictures!

CD is a good idea... it seems everyone has a laptop with them nowadays. I was walking through a rather large library yesterday and seeing everyone with their laptops reminded me of how I owned one of the very first laptops--I don't even remember the brand. People would stop me to stare at it and marvel at it on airplanes. ha.

I just bought banana leaves Marcia... big Latino population in these parts !

It does sort of make me wonder how long we will be cooking from a recipe book...will we all have flip down computers under our kitchen cabinets in the next year?

I mean, I don't use recipe books that much. I just search online or print out stuff from you guys.

I would say if we were to go high tech, a cd might be a little inconvenient to use? I would think a website would be easier to use, but then you can't sell it.

Sounds like a great idea...I'm not a cook so wouldn't have much to contribute but I am a shopper so I would help by purchasing!! :D
