I'm with you. I used to bring my hiking boots, sneakers and tevas. Now all we bring are tevas. If it's cold we wear socks on the way to the airport. I see serious packing savings across the 3 women I take on my trips. We each fit ALL of our gear in a carry-on knapsack and one snorkel bag per 2 people.nyestreet wrote:Last year: Tevas, Sneakers and loafers
This year: Tevas and sneakers
Next year: Tevas only

Jorge, uh, Mr. Manlyman, how could you possibly worry about getting in on this one when the "subject" doesn't say "Girls - How many pairs of shoes do you take?" You guys can have a say on this, I'm sure, but for some reason I don't see a guy taking 5 pairs of shoes along!Jorge wrote:OK, I hope you girls don't mind me getting in on this one. Luvya, Jorge (manlyman)

I'm only planning on taking 2 pr of flip-flops and the Skechers I'll be wearing on the plane. I might throw in a dressier pr of flips before I zip up that suitcase up though.

The amount of stuff I take along and declined each year. For our honeymoon, I know I took at least one pair of shoes for each day, probably more because I matched the shoes to my outfits.
This past trip, I took 2 sets of flip flops (a day and evening pair, which were identical except for color and condition) and sneakers.
The only time I wore the sneakers was down and back and each trip but I felt I might need them just in case we did a hike.
My husband is the shoe hound in the family. I seriously need to restrict the number of pairs he takes along because he will pack in a carry-on size and be all proud of himself and then expect me to fit his 5 pairs of shoes into my bag.
To the other PA girls - Boscov's is just the best, BEST, place to get sandals on sale!

Shoes are the things that threaten to put my packing over the carry on limit!! I'm 5'11", so my shoes are not exactly dainty. DH is 6'3", so his shoes also take up alot of space!
When we went to Maui last Dec., I vowed to only bring 2 pairs: Keen sandals, which I wore on the plane, and a pair of Crocs for 'dress up'. The Keens are awesome - hiking, in and out of water, you name it. But the Crocs looked ridiculous with a skirt or sarong. For St. John, I'm thinking Keens and this cute pair of shoes I just got at Lucy, which are sporty but sort of Mary Jane-ish so more dressy and cute. Maybe a pair of flip flops. (I know that "maybe" will probably amaze all you flip flop lovers! I wear my Keens like you all wear your flip flops.)

Jorge, cracking up about the closet cubbies!! There is something therapeutic about shopping for shoes, even for someone like me who doesn't even like to shop.
Back in the single days, one of my best friends had just moved back from overseas and walked into my closet. (I lived in a studio apt, but had a walk in closet.) Right away, she said "your boyfriend broke up with you." How did she know? All the new shoes! And almost every pair black. And all absolutely necessary.

I bring lots but I have tiny feet so I can fit them all in! This year I am wearnig my sneakers on the plane and then packing my merrill hiking sandals, my water shoes, my arcopedico sandals--I have them in red and beige, and I will probably bring both, and probably a pair of dressy black heeled shoes. Why I bring the heels I do not know. I bring them every year and never wear them.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
Looks like we're all in good company here. I too am an official overpacker (both shoes and clothes). Since I wear size 11B it's really hit or miss on being able to find something to fit my feet on the fly. They also take up a lot of room.
I usually pack a variety of Teva's, flip flops, borns and sneakers. Do I wear all of them? Probably not.
My newest addiction is Stuart Weitzman and their silver/crystal styles -- certainly not suitable for STJ -- but definite eye candy for any girl with a shoe jones.
What I'm wondering now how much Jorge charges for installing said "cubbies" and if he offers a forum discount.
BTW Jorge aka "Manlyman" I will be at Tysons II today during lunch for some retail therapy -- and yes, you'll find me at Stuart Weitzman and JCrew!!

OK,
I have to admitt I too love my shoes & take more than I need, but a girl never knows which ones she will need
While I don't take a pair to match each of my 5 or so bathingsuits I do take a pair to make each of my evening outfits.
On our first trip to STJ, I took a few pairs to many, but then I was not up on the lack of dress code so for our upcoming trip I am going to try & cut down on all shoes & clothing..........This will be a difficult task

I'm surprised Mr Marcia hasn't asked how many "go commando" in their shoes on the island.Marcia (Mrs. Pete) wrote:I have not read any of the previous posts (I'm in a rush) so I might be repeating information...all I know is that Pete suggested I post something about this because he knows my packing issues and it all revolves around my DANG shoes so he suggested I pipe in here. I pack, at a MINIMUM, 8 pairs of shoes. You have your white heels, your white strappy heels, your black strappy heels, your flip flops of all colors/comfort levels, etc. Shoes are the only thing I can't not pack.

Shoe-gasm! Love it. Mine goes a little deeper, I actually see fireworks too!
Vicki, Cypress, mb; right there with you girls. One trip (not to STJ), I took 12 pairs of shoes and let me tell ya, I wore every single pair! But the bitching I was subjected to by Honey about did me in. Since he had to schlep the shoe bag I thought I'd never hear the end of it!
Unfortunately I have a worse affliction. Bikinis and beach bags. Good hells, I have a bikini for every day of the week for two weeks! I also have matching wraps, sarongs, board shorts, flip-flops, I even have matching sun visors (my girlfriend makes sarong/visor sets)! Beach bags; someone needs to stop me. I have beach bags that I've never even used. It's pathetic! I need help.
I think my daughter got the bag gene cause that girl has so many damn handbags she could open her own shop! It's a serious problem.
On the shoe thing though, I only take the cheapie Old Navy flip-flops to STJ. A rainbow of colors to match, but we stay REALLY casual (no makup, curled hair) so no dressy shoes down either. I get waxed before leaving so I don't have to exert myself shaving. Pretty bad, I know.
