Renting Cars on STT

Post by jimg20 »

We have a trip coming up where we will be staying on STT. We will need to rent a car and have always gotten our cars from STJ companies. Other than Budget & Dependable who is available on STT? I remember hearing about another company owned by a couple who offered great service. Does anyone have any information on them?

Thanks

I think the other company you are thinking of is amalie - http://www.amaliecar.com/ I have a reservation with them right now, but havent taken the trip yet. They have a very good reputation.

Just back from a week on STT. I highly recommend Discount Car Rental. Very responsive and good rate. http://www.discountcar.vi/

For sure stay away from Budget. Earlier this month I rented from them and took the Jeep to STJ. When our flight landed there were about 30 people standing in line (all with reservations) waiting for a car. Here's the kicker... they had no cars. They were only able to give out cars as they were slowly returned. Needless to say there were quite a few angry customers, including myself. I was kinda freaking out because I had to get a car from them (only company in the VIs that will rent to someone under 25) and I HAD to have 4 wheel drive or I wasnt going to make it to my villa in Coral Bay. We waited almost 3 hours to luckily get a 4 wheel drive jeep just in time to make the last car ferry to STJ.
Reminds me of an episode of Seinfeld... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4jhHoHpFXc.

I'll bet you are thinking of Amalie Car rental. After 9 trips to the islands, we rented from them 2 weeks ago for 10 days and it was our best USVI car rental experience yet. Fabulous folks!

I ave to agree....Amalie Car Company is the way to go. They are locally owned by a wonderful couple who do everything they can to make things easy for you. They will bring the car to the airport for you and stand outside baggage claim with a sign with your name on it!! Then after a maximum of 5 minutes you are on your way! We ALWAYS rent through them and already have a Jeep on hold for our December trip:)

Thanks for all your sugggestions. It appears, however, that Amilia may be closed for vacation during our vacation. They will let me know by next week. Who would be your second choice if they are not available?

OK. I have good news and bad news.

The good news is Amalie will be open when we are there next month. 8)

The bad news is that they want $70 more than Discount Car Rental. :( They are $35 more than Dependable.

I've heard very strong recommendations for Amalie. Are they really worth that much more than the other guys?

I think the one we've used several times without incident is Thrifty....they are located slightly off the airport property. We just call them when we land and they come get us....Had great luck with them...this is our 7th trip to st. john
