I have always said this, and I always stand behind what I say. The people on this forum just happen to be a great bunch of people. Even though some of us have never met, we are always there for each other to lend a helping hand. Whether by actions or a simple kind word of thought, it is always there.
This past week or so has been a really long one. A forum member was always checking in on me through my facebook page and really showed what a true person she really is. She actually showed it even from day one, always asking how Linda was doing. Bev, thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers throughout this ordeal. We have never met, though it seems we have. I am so looking forward to the day when Boston Mike , Boston Nicolle, Bev and Crash meet up. The first thing I am doing is giving you a big hug.
My sister Linda Hilbert fought hard throughout her ordeal. These past couple of weeks she just kept getting hit one after another. When we all got the call that the doctors gave her a week to live, the three brothers dropped everything and flew out to Missouri to be with her. My other sister Michelle had to stay behind because she had just given birth and could not travel. It was hard, but we found ways for her to see and speak to Linda.
I have to tell the story of her day of passing. That it should be a sad day, but after what transpired it turned to be a day of relief and some sort of happiness knowing she was in good hands. Everything lined up like this was supposed to happen, or she made it happen that way. We were all (the three brothers and her husband) standing at the patio door watching the storm tear through the St. Louis area. Linda was behind us and had her ipod set up resting and listening to her favorite album. The storm was pretty intense and we were worried about losing power. We all heard Linda take two deep breaths and immediately turned to her to be by her side. We watched as she let out those breaths in one big flow. We knew what just happened and took steps to make sure she was at rest. We all said our goodbyes and let her know that she is in a good place and the pain was over. My sister Linda responded to that. During this time that ugly storm had suddenly stopped. I made my way back over to the patio door and just stared down to the ground and with deep thought. My brother Danny joined me, put his arm around me and we cried. He then whispered over to me and said “hey brother, take a look at what she is leaving” and then pointed to this rainbow. I looked up and smiled and knew it was her path to a wonderful place and God letting us know that everything was going to be ok. To me it was a sign of relief that her pain was over and she was now up there hanging out with my dad and her big sister Brenda. My other Jimmy and her husband Bill joined us and just all smiled and cried.
Linda always wanted to go to St. John and was a big fan of the Spice Cam. She was amazed the day a message showed up in the sand to Boston Nicolle and Boston Mike. She asked me how did you do that when you are at home. I always said let’s just say I got friends in the right latitude with the right attitude. She knew a lot about St. John and this forum from the conversations we shared. She always said, after I kick this things butt I am going. Somehow I knew that wouldn’t happen and always gave her a piece of St. John through my pictures and stories.
To all my forum friends, thank you. Thank you for your kind words and prayers. It really means a ton to me.
God bless you all!
I leave you with a picture of that rainbow she left us. R.I.P my sister, you will be missed.

Mike- so sorry to hear about your sister. May you find peace in knowing that she is free of her pain now. Your story you shared with us is so touching. A rainbow is a promise...

Mike, I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my prayers and I'm glad that you and your brothers got to hold Linda's hand one more time. May Michelle's new little baby bring you all joy and remind you of the love Linda had for all of you.
My DH is battling cancer and I'd like to share a message from his Caring Bridge guest book; it is also engraved on a dog-tag style necklace, given to him by a friend. He wears it for inspiration:
"What cancer cannot do... it cannot invade the soul, suppress memories, kill friendship, destroy peace, conquer the spirit, shatter hope, cripple love, corrode faith, steal eternal life, silence courage."
