Cruz Bay Prime report

Post by liamsaunt »

I don't see a lot about this place on here so I thought I would tell you about our experience. I forgot my camera so no pictures.

First, I have never been inside the Westin before. It kind of feels like Disney--not islandy at all. It could be anywhere. I don't think I would enjoy staying there.

Cruz Bay Prime is upstairs from the main lobby. It is open to the lobby, so there is noise from there as well as from a big fountain. John had to move his chair around the table so we could talk without shouting. If you are with someone with hearing problems, I would choose another location.

Service was good, attentive without being overbearing. Food was decidedly mixed. I started with a vegetable gazpacho which was awful--it was actually inedible. Incredibly acidic and lacking in fresh flavor, they definitely used either canned tomato juice or V8i as the base. Yuck. John had a lobster cappucino which he enjoyed. I did not like it. Too rich and not lobstery enough.

Entrees were much better. I had a pan roasted snapper, and John had local tuna. Both were very fresh and nicely prepared. All sides are served family style and cost $7. We had the asparagus and macarroni and cheese. Both fine, nothing special. We skipped dessert.

Wines are marked up but that is to be expected.

Overall, I don't think I will go back, but I am glad that we tried it.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
