Runners on the forum?

My twin sister's New Year's resolution was to get out and exercise. This meant, It was now mine as well (not voluntarily). We started the C 2 5k program in January in sub freezing weather. We could barely run the required minute. We didn't skip ahead but did repeat weeks. It took us 14 weeks to actually run the distance of 3.2 but we did it. We actually run on a very flat gravel trail. We ran our first (may be our last) 5k in June...I thought of bacon and eggs the entire time. Well, in between the thoughts of my knees hurting, the hills killing me and not being able to catch my breath. Who knew there were "mountains" in the smack dab middle of downtown Raleigh NC!!! I have never mastered the art of breathing. I have read every Runner's World magazine for the last two years and tried every thing they've put out. My husband just ran the Boston Marathon (3:25) and he says...you just have to do what feels right. EMS just needs to run by me and that would feel much better. Good luck with your run. Sign up for the OBX in November and head out to NC!

Thanks stjohnrunner - I thought that area from Maho to Leinster is another good option, just not as close to where we're staying. My wife and I have done the Johnny Horn trail from Brown Bay to Leinster (by mistake!) so we'll let him know about that as an option. He's been running in the heat and humidity here (central Florida) so thankfully he's pretty good about hydration and fueling. Maho sounds like a great way to cool down after a run - maybe I'll join him for a portion of them!
Come see us!
Thank you so much!! I would be SO proud to be running a 25k but I am working on the first 5k first. Yesterday, I changed from the joggers breath to breathing from my core. I got a lot less winded but my pace was considerably slower.
Congratulations unstwin! Good luck training for and completing the OBX. I am looking for a 5K to complete. My girlfriend is going to start in August so we thought October would be a good time. Really, I might need to sign up for one before that on my own.
Tracy: I am going to "be the turtle" with you! It is slow going with me but I enjoy it and I am doing it so that is what matters to me.
